Anonymous Coward User ID: 2119121 Netherlands 08/28/2012 08:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Half-life of CS137 is 30 years. Half-life of CS134 is about 2 years, and CS135 half-life is 2.3 million years. Now considering it will take about 10 half-lives to become 'safe', it is an obvious lie. It would take at least 300 years for the majority of the most common Cesium isotope to become stable. Cesium-137 decays to Barium-137 which is a gamma ray emitter. But besides the hazard of Cesium, there is also Sr90, Co60, Pu and many many more isotopes and activation products of this disaster. Fukushima is without a doubt a most horrible tragedy. While the MSM pretends the disaster is over and all is well, the plant keeps on emitting huge amounts of radioactivity. And the effects are only just starting, bio accumulation in the food chain will increase the (genetic) effects manifold. |

Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it. - Buddha (Kalama Sutta.) |

ehecatl User ID: 22784247 Mexico 08/29/2012 11:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | quoting my recent post from the main Fukushima thread - Gamma rays from Fukushima rubble worse than radioactive cesium coming from plant, say officials Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11432405 Japanese officials reporting on the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster say that gamma rays from the rubble left by the accident are now a greater concern than radioactive cesium still being emitted from the crippled nuclear plant. A report to an International Atomic Energy Agency meeting presented Monday says that cesium being released from the plant is at approximately 0.01 becquerels per hour, well below the health-hazard level. Shinichi Kuroki, who presented the report, says the greater challenge is to reduce relatively high gamma ray radiation from the plant debris. [link to www.japantoday.com] . Except that the gamma rays only affect things in the proximity of the plant, because it is radiation, which is something like light. But the cesium will travel as far as the wind or water or environment will carry it, and last for many years, because it is not radiation. It is an isotope and is a material, like very fine dust. A misleading apples and oranges statement in essence. It is a question of risk to whom. The gamma rays pose a risk mostly just to people near the disaster zone. The cesium poses a risk mostly to all other people and life on the planet. Last Edited by ehecatl on 08/29/2012 11:22 AM |
