it's too cold on this planet anyways, there are vast amounts of land that are cold and barren. Warm the planet up a degree or three and maybe they'll become livable. Don't worry, we'll get our carbon emissons under control before it's too late. We have at best 50 years before we have technology that eliminates the use of fossil fuels for energy.

Re: Artic Ice Melt Record Broken
Wrong. Record is from 2007. And this record is irrelevant. Measurements started in 1979 only. This is nothing.

Also, even if it was true, big deal, Artic melted several times before. At least twice in the 20th century.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10272994

Agree...it's the Artic summer, ice will melt. On the other hand the Antarctic sea ice remains above the 1979-2008 mean values.

Re: Artic Ice Melt Record Broken
I, like millions of others, live near lakes that were carved out by ice. This is not unusual either.

If you do more research into this matter you will find that most of the models that show ice receding were photos in the spring.
They conveniently do not show the ice growth in winter.
 Quoting: Passin' Through

Well buddy, The point is that the ice is smaller than its been in Springs past.

I live in the Rocky Mountains of the USA and our glacial drifts have been smaller this year than in decades.

Just ask people along the Colorado river what they think.

When you will see the mountains flowing with steams and rivers, while the ice caps have melted away, then you will know it is the time of the great slaughter when the towers fall. One more warm winter ought to do it. REPENT!!!!

Shad - Good post .

Ice is used to deflect the sunlight.Absence of ice and increase in oceans means it will absorb more heat and will be a feedback to melt more ice. This is turn releases the methane from permafost and Co2 which will lead to global warning. Now we need to know the time frame for all this cycle.

Isolating one factor apart from the multitude of related effects is pointless.
The earth is a bio-system.. with inter-related systems creating a balance.
It is way more than merely cause and effect.

There is an imbalance.. look at the weather, the sun, the water..
all with definite influence on the whole.
I believe the earth's balance will be re-achieved, eventually.
The question is.. will we survive until it happens..?

can it be the poles are absorbing more the just heat?
TEC...and cosmic rays? is there more to this then just heat....this is not humans in nature.

The meltwater in the ocean is diluting the salt..affects thermohaline circulation, evaporation and weather.

The shifting of mass to the equator may be contributing to fluctuations in axial tilt.

There are many factors in play.

Wow, the lowest in 30 years. That's a great graph when measured against the 4,500,000,000 years that the Earth has been around.

There has been a high pressure system stuck in the Artic this summer. When that is gone, there is going to be record freezing.

How can it be broken, the arctic went through a very long period where there was no ice at all but just trees, grass and mammoth shit?!

So please explain how the records have been broken before I vote on the thread, thanks.

As its been explained theres no way of proving an all time record. These recordings started in 1979 and this is the new record. I'm not making any mind boggling postulations just reporting the news as the poles have been of interest of late.

I'm probably more biased because I'm stuck in the middle of this midwest massive drought and to me everything is burning up. I'm very concerned with a series of events that I've been watching for sometime. The increasing TEC(total electron spikes). The buildup of solar energy particles in the ionosphere. The dramatic increase in magma flow etc... I believe its all inter connected and we are in the beginning stages of some big earth changes.

You can vote any way you want it doesn't matter to me. If I see something that seems important I like to bring it out in the open. Everyone has their opinion and they should. If theres even a small percentage of relevancy to any of this it should be explored.

Yes.. I was too vague. Didn't mean to insinuate this thread was doing that. Meant to point out that all factors should be considered when discussing any isolated factor..

This, to me, is the problem with science in the traditional sense.
Each regimen tends to discount any influence that could be relevant from disciplines outside their particular realm of knowledge.. and many posters do the same.

For example.. geological studies show proof of rapid magnetic pole reversal in the past ..it is merely a piece of the puzzle.

Bad news for global temperatures as these ice caps are our biggest controlling factor for worldwide temp. increase

The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. Ice in the Arctic Ocean this summer was stepped to a record low, scientists have reported. Arctic ice came to an area 4.09 million square kilometers. This record was demolished in 2007, when the surface ice was 4.17 million square kilometers. From the U.S. National Centre for monitoring snow and ice has indicated that it will melt in the next few weeks to continue.
