Why the sky in Mars is so blue? With that thin atmosphere?
In the pics from Curiosity...

Why so blue?

With that thin atmosphere?

When I'm aboard a commercial plane, here on Earth, and look to the sky above the plane, it's so dark... Because of the thin atmosphere...

The sky in Mars is much less dark...

Weird...

Is Earth's atmosphere above a commercial plane more thin than Mars atmosphere at ground level?

In the pics from Curisotiy, the sky of Mars at ground level looks as blue as Earth's sky at ground level...

How is that possible, if the atmosphere is much more thin?

Why are you comparing a processed image tailored for display on a computer monitor with what the world looks like to your eyes?

I recall the 1st time they landed on mars years ago, when video came on, the sky was as blue as earth for a couple minutes then suddenly had a red tint, they had some lame excuse . But I always wondered what was up.

I don't know if I trust their facts about the atmosphere being 1/100 that of earth, if that was the case there would hardly be any light being scattered in the atmosphere.

The simple and real answer is: The atmosphere is not as thin as they want you to think, and it is oxygen up there.

Cheers!

And as seen, and said, they have been caught hoaxing around earlier, with the old RED style photos from the first voyages up there in the 70s & 80s. "RED PLANET" they used to call it, and turns out its not red at all, and got a blue sky just like Earth.

There ARE clouds on Mars, something already verified by NASA themselves.. Here is an OFFICIAL link to some interesting photos from Mars on NASAs own server: [link to mars.jpl.nasa.gov]

precisely.

Mars is call the "red planet" because the surface of
Mars is red. and it is red because of iron oxide.

Re: Why the sky in Mars is so blue? With that thin atmosphere?
of course I just got the idea to look at pictures taken from the top of mt Everest. Despite the atmosphere being 1/3 that of sea level, it's still plenty light in most of the pictures.

Who knows what the exposure is on the photos, it can be deceiving.

Also, mars has a lot of dust which might explain the extra light scattering. Pictures of sunset seem to indicate a rather thin atmosphere.

Re: Why the sky in Mars is so blue? With that thin atmosphere?
Here is an excellent web site giving evidence on how NASA is manipulating the colors on the photos. It includes evidence that NASA have published same photos in two different versions, one style red tainted as typical, and one more "normal" with blue sky etc. In addition, it shows that they are hiding colors on purpose, such as things that are green will turn up brown, and things blue will turn up red !

Probably some bushes and vegetations they are making disappearing from the photos that way.
