The passenger was questioned for a couple of hours and then released without being charged, authorities said. The plane, Frontier Airlines flight 319, arrived at about 10:10 a.m., said airport spokeswoman Marine Renneke. When it landed, flight attendants told the pilot that a passenger had been acting suspiciously, said Transportation Security Administration spokesman Nico Melendez. FBI spokeswoman LaRae Quy said the passenger was reported to be making statements about bombs and writing in a notebook. "It was a journal, and somebody had handwritten in this journal 'suicide bomber.' " She said. "The other thing he was doing was clutching a backpack." Melendez said the man was taken off the flight along with his carry-on luggage to be interviewed by investigators from San Jose police, the TSA and FBI. The plane was then allowed to proceed to the gate, where the rest of the 100 passengers aboard disembarked, Renneke said. Quy said she "commended" the passengers who brought the man to flight attendants' attention. "In this day and age, we don't necessarily need to be suspicious about everybody, but we do need to be alert," she said. [link to www.sfgate.com] |
