So, you have all this training and havent heard of OPSEC?

really...

What information am I providing here that could aid any potential enemy? You have no idea who I am, and other than finding my general area with an IP trace, what could a potential enemy gather from this post that would help him and hurt me? Please enlighten me.

You said yourself "all you x's would show up", so you've already admitted to blowing opsec before your plans began.

A "metro park"? But you're secluded? An 1/8th mile? A list of all known accomplices, their backgrounds, their specialities and your arrogance. You won't be hard to find. Seal my ass, co1ntel..

I guess "show up" was a poor choice of words. They would call me as soon as it gets bad. They do not know about any of this. Yes the metro park is in the country, not all metro parks are down town in major cities. More of a nature preserve although the sign says metro park. Think woods and horse trails, not park benches and playgrounds. I wonder how many streets in this country dead end 1/8th mile after a park. Probably quite a few. I was also vague on background info. Guys who went from the military to the auto tech field are EVERYWHERE. You guys can scream FBI/cointel all you want, I'm here for ideas and will make no further posts defending myself on this issue.

Combat engineer is a hell of a cook. We have 2 charcoal grills and a smoker. Hopefully that will be enough as it looks like venison will be the primary protein source here.

Well water is the only sustainable source of water at the moment. There are lots of ponds around but very few streams or anything like that. I have about 40 gallons of city water in gallon jugs but that won't last long if well water is contaminated. Wish we had a stream in the back yard. Rain water collection barrels would probably be the best option, what do you guys think?

You are missing a grip on reality. IF you were a SEAL you would know that going firm is not a good option, anytime, anywhere.

The giveaway is guns, guns, guns for defence. If Sasquatch built permanent 'residences' they would have been found long time ago. Maybe they are so elusive due to their nomadic (maybe territorial?) lifestyle?

Small teams, mobile, light. Eyes and ears 24/7. Give it four months, take sneekie-peekies every week or so - then go firm. If your 'base' has not been rumbled, you make a judgement call then, based on your local intel.

Only a fool fights in a burning house. Camouflage and concealment, see and not be seen. A SEAL has these skills in abundance has a hyper advantage over Mr Burger Belly and Miss Botox, no matter how big their guns and fortress.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2926765

I like monoculars and scopes better than binos because you keep your natural night vision better when only one eye is looking through the NV. This means if your NV dies, fails, gets a flashlight pointed directly at it and becomes momentarily FUBAR, etc you will be better equipped to fight without it. ATN makes some nice stuff but pricey. Binos are good for staying hands free but take some training to accurately fire your weapon while wearing them. If working alone, binos might be better for you. When working as a team, one guy spotting with a mono while another guy is shooting works well.

Re: Civil War Preparations
I would like to start by saying this is intended to be a serious discussion about how to prepare for a civil war / martial law scenario, not a debate about if / when that scenario will happen.

As a former Navy SEAL, I feel that I am more prepared than most for this type of situation. However, you can never be over prepared for something of this magnitude. I have put together a small team of people that I feel would be well suited to SHTF scenario. Here's the list of people and qualifications.
1 - former SEAL, current automotive master technician - I can fix just about any car or gun currently in use.
2 - former combat engineer - built a house from the foundation up, knows about plumbing, electrical work and HVAC.
3 - former Army Ranger, current RN - handy with a gun and a great medic
4 - 3 time felon - 160+ IQ, has experience making fake checks, knows how to manufacture/distribute drugs. Also handy with a gun and great at reading people and psychology
5 - welder - gun enthusiast, great welder and mechanic, also knows HVAC
6 - Army infantry - 2 trips to the sand box, field survival skills but otherwise no special skills

I feel like I have almost everything covered with this group. We can fix just about anything, have a nurse on hand, can build shelter if we're forced to and sustain our own farm. The biggest hole I see is an IT specialist but I'm guessing in this situation Internet and cell phone use wouldn't be available to the general population any more.

Now to the HQ. We have a house in the country, 20+ miles from the nearest big city. It has well water, a large woods full of game, and a metro park FULL of deer across the street. It is not in a residential neighborhood and the street dead ends 1/8 mile past the house so the road could be easily blocked to create a perimeter. The basement is over 2000 sq feet and could be used as an indoor garden to keep crops away from looters.

Now to the stockpile. We have slightly under 10k rounds of 5.56 77 grain boat tail JHPs. We have the same number of .45ACP TAP rounds (230 grain HPs). Each man has night vision monocular or binocular, body armor, and gas mask. We have both standard AR-15s and 24" bull barrels for long range. We have a mix of Glocks and 1911s. We also have grow lights, tons of MREs, rechargable stinger lights, walkies, HAM radio, and 40-50 other miscellaneous firearms with varying amounts of ammo. We have enough soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc to last a life time. We have a deep freezer stocked full of meat and a giant stash of canned goods.

In summary I feel like we could take on a small third world country and win, but we are talking about the US Government and public at large here, that's a much larger task. I figured getting some civilians to take a look at what I've got and give me some feedback might be beneficial. We're all looking at it from a military engagement point of view. What do you guys see as essential for day to day life that I'm missing?

Im not trying to hide. I'm not planning on fighting an organized force. I am trying to set up a base that 6-10 adults can survive in for an indefinite period of time. I see the biggest threat as small roving bands of looters. If it gets to the point where the government notices, we will have a contingency plan to bug out and go mobile. Also, going mobile as soon as SHTF would leave us with the issue of where to stockpile the supplies we spent a year acquiring. Where do we put all the supplies in the mean time and how do we get them to base without drawing attention?

I can use a computer pretty well but couldn't fix one if my lIfe depended on it. I have a friend who builds his own gaming computers for fun but haven't decided if I want to let him in on this. He would be basically worthless in any kind of survival situation so I'm debating on whether his computer skills would make up for his complete lack of survival knowledge and inability to accurately shoot a rifle. I would prefer that every member of the group be able to survive without assistance from the rest of the group if need be but the glaring lack of an IT guy is my biggest problem right now.

You need an alky still. I never heard of military guys getting together and not drinking like fish.

But then maybe you better all go AA for the duration. Still its always nice to have fresh fruit around like apples blueberries and grapes for wine.

You try to turn an indoor space into a garden your electric bill will go sky high and > they monitor those things. You'll get a visit from the cops. You could use your own power but unless you've got a high quality diesel generator or two and battery solar backup ... an eventual wear and tear situation on people and equipment plus thousands of gal of diesel.

Ah, MRE the old standby. Anybody sees your garbage - you become an immediate source of interest. 20 or so miles from the nearest big city I don't know what you can do except build a moat or iron fence with sharpened spikes. Those hungry outdoorsmen gonna find you... shoot & shovel. Distance is your friend.

You better start regressing to older more serviceable tech especially the diesel variety in trucks and cars. Gas is garbage unless its fresh.

I don't care how intelligent a felon is in crime ... he still got caught 3 times. He's not someone I would ever trust. But if you happen to be married to his sister or something ... the devil chooses your family.

Out of sight... out of mind. Stay in the shadows when the crazy people are out in the streets looking for blood. Unless they're the banker zombies that got all your money then blast away lol. Might as well have some fun.

Re: Civil War Preparations
My main reason for not going completely mobile is the single digit temperatures here. It's nearly impossible to build a shelter for that. Snow ruins your camouflage at night, your movements can be tracked and game is scarce here in the winter. Indoor gardening would be done with power from a generator. Anything growing outside will be fenced and watched 24/7.
