Interested on hearing your opinion as to why White won't erupt? What is it that I am missing??....cause I thought increasing tremor was often a precursor to an eruption?

Been a couple of mild tremors on Tongariro and some stronger venting as well...venting for the previous few days was very light and wispy so definitely a bit more activity...

Also had quake on the Alpine fault in SOuth Island today...5.3 magnitude reported by GNS but no aftershocks yet...the Alpine Fault is overdue for a massive quake so hope this wasnt a precursor....

This is also a really neat view of Tongariro...right up by the Te Maari craters...you can clearly see if you play the animation the increase in venting from the early hours of the morning till now...

Also interesting to look at the rsam/ssam plots for Rotorua...shows the regular geyser action has increased in amplitude quite significantly in the last two days as well...

FUnny...I commented on Geonet's official website here yesterday that White island was looking interesting and possibly looking ike erupting...their response was nothing to see..no change whatsoever....

...I was astounded.....WHAT??? no change u say....are you blind? The rsam/ssam plot now shows the tremor to be at levels same as when last small eruption occured and its still climbing...and the drums are now filling the WHOLE page...no gap at the bottom anymore...strongest sustained and incresing tremor since 2000....

That is bloody shameful alright...especially considering the waking up of two other volcanoes and odd rumblings here and there on a couple of the others...

There have been huge criticisms since the small eruption on Tongariro...it took them 100 minutes to notify civil defence that the mountain was erupting....

Too busy trying to dot their i's and cross their t's before letting anyone know...shutting the gate after the horse had already bolted...if it had been a bigger eruption the people living under the mountain would have been toast....

Oh hey...just saw your other thread...sorry for posting a new one!

I am in Carterton in the Wairarapa....just moved last September from Papamoa beach...ironic aye! Had a gut urge to get out after the tsunamui in Japan...didnt feel at all comfortable living a hundred metres from the beach!

I cant believe Geonet is not even commenting on the tremor at White....!!.... mean surely just a heads up that it might be heading for an eruption....or are they not aware of the large hazard this volcano presents if the crater were to be breached by the sea???

I was flabberghasted when they basically said no change nothing to see...I mean I know that it could easily settle down and lead to nothing but NO CHANGE???! What planet are they on...that tremor is still climbing!
