Erm..... how would you know? Been one have you? Remember that women and other races were (and still are by many) thought of as being lesser, and incapable of thoughts and feelings, as a "real" human. We have made leaps and bounds in that regard. Now people must start to see that animals too deserve some respect.

Think on this, the very same scientists that reckon we evolved from apes perform horrific animal testing on them. We share most of our dna with the pig.

The only thing that separates us is really our inability to live within nature. Saying that they have no desire to live like us just shows that maybe they are content the way they are. Technological advancement is just one example of intelligence, I'd rather have common sense and peace.

Our "damned race" is the only creature that has ever lived (to our knowledge) on this planet that has culture. No other animal that has ever lived can rationalize. They have no ability to communicate other than to express simple, physical, emotional responses to their current environment.

They have no ability to learn they have no ability to think in the future. They have no concept of mutual exchange. Humans are inherently different, show me an animal that can think in the future, or has ever traded anything at all between another animal and I'll think about it.

Some poster above beautifully explained it to you and the "evil cats person". They don't really have a choice in the sense that humans have. Survival of the fittest and shit. The majority of humans have a choice to make a decision according to our moral code.

Go back to Jewish ways people, Go Kosher. They dont harm pigs and the laws demand kind treatment on animals...

If you want to eat meat, go live off the land and kill it because you need to survive. Otherwise, stick to plant matter -- these fat cowards don't deserve to eat meat, they have no right, they've earned nothing.

This was how the sacrifices at the Jewish temple went. The animals were prayed over and then eaten..People totallly misunderstood sacrifice today. Sacrifice meant giving honor and thanks to God for our food. The Jewish people were very much like the native Americans in their reverence for the land, and what God had given them.

I think somehow we have to come to grips with the concept that Animals and Plants have chosen to be here for a specific reason. I do believe we need to be HUMANE at all cost. I'm struggling with the rest though!

I have read this also..I even read about lettuce or cabbage that showed emotion at being cut..it even screamed when hooked up to certain monitors and then showed fear when the person who cut it came back around. It really freaks me out as it seems all matter is alive..and if even the vegetation is capable of fear and pain we are left with not much choice to eat. I do think the plants and animals are here for a reason and part of it is to determine what kind of a person we are.

Science without spirituality and morals will not be allowed to advance..

Animals DO NOT have "consciousness" like humans! Animals have ELEMENTALS, which is the closest they will get to a "proto-consciousness", so to speak! Animals don't know what they are! They feel they are alive, they feel their existence, but they don't know the purpose of it and they don't seek a purpose for life, like humans!

I don't know about Dolphins, but animals don't have a consciousness like humans have, THOUGH the elementals of domestic dogs and cats can evolve into human essence, which will allow further births as humans.

Ive noticed that when Im weed eating and trimming my backyard , all the other weeds would shake with fright, even though there was no breeze blowing.

And when I had to cut down a tree, the other trees were shaking and moving, again, no breeze...They were talking to eachother that danger was near..

Yes, why some who talk to their plants have wonderful growth and health of those plants. It's not crazy stuff! Just because some understand it and most don't , doesn't make it nutty.

Yes, they don't contemplate the meaning of life or have a spiritual need. Humans are different than animals in that we are made in the image of God. But the Bible does say that we are to have dominion over the animals(which we do not these days since the fall of Eden) and take care of them. Never abuse them. We have been given permission to use them as food(after Noah's flood) but again they should never be abused. And this is sadly happening everyday just like humans abuse humans.

I must say that I'm intuitively highly skeptical of plants being able to feel pain bc. they don't have any kind of nervous system or brain but of course am willing to accept that I'm wrong if this is proven. Was this study peer reviewed? Do you remember any data on methodology?

OTOH animals undisputedly have brains and nervous systems and are definitely able to feel pain. For now, we should aim to draw the line there, I think. According to one's abilities, of course.

Conciousness is not the same a conscience...

Animals are obviously aware of their surroundings, but they think intinctually (as we do to some extent), but humans are sentient, we are able to rise above instinct (on some rare occasions)...

It doesn't really matter if animals have conciousness or not it doesn't change anything. Many earth centered religions have believed amimals have conciousness and still eat them.
