I think it was Plato who condemned music as harmful and corrupting.

Eventually, most people kind of outgrow music, I think. It doesn't hold the same thrill and becomes kind of annoying.

To me music always seems to be about dreaming to be somewhere else. It is kind of a drug in this way. It doesnt change a thing about your current situation, but if you fall for it, it makes you feel better. In reality your life is as shitty as ever.

There is nothing wrong with music except when your mind is occupied on other things.

While reading this reply you are hearing my typed words in your own voice as though you are speaking them to your own self.

Now what would your thoughts sound like if you were deaf from the womb and never heard any sound in all your life?

When the scrambling of humans interaction with their own thoughts being given out and taken in by others.....the scrambling is in their hearing not their actual tongue.

The same it goes for unscrambling an unknown tongue so a human can hear and comprehend what another is saying to them....it is done through the hearing not the tongue.

Your thought are not your own 100% of the time even if you are in a rubber room with a straight jacket on your thoughts are not 100% your own.

You can not tell who is thinking the thought because they all sound like your own voice thinking.........

You will know it is not your thought you are hearing in your mind when it relays to you information your have never revived or known.

This is being conversed in a reply only on the base line that the information relayed is coherent, reasonable.

Prove all things.

You are living proof, that music is dangerous to mental health and to be avoided if possible.

That's because you haven't looked past the mainstream. You can't seriously tell me that Porcupine Tree is degenerate. Or King Crimson, Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Tool, etc. These are just bands in the rock/metal genre too btw. Insane amounts of creativity and talent involved with all of these bands. Hell, most of the ones I mentioned helped me get through tough times in my childhood because the music was so inspirational.

I will walk out of a room or a shop if I hear robbie williams, bon jovi, boybands, divas warbling, hiphop, rap, nu-metal or other processed cheese crap.

I know this is an old thread, but I ran across it when attempting some research on not being able to tolerate music. Are you still troubled with this? Or have you been able overcome it?

I ask because several years ago I went through a very strange period of being unable to tolerate music of any kind. I love music and grew up loving it, but for a period of maybe a year or so, it became intolerable to my senses. It was all like horrible unbearable noise. It didn't seem to have anything to do with my hearing, but my body just seemed unable to tolerate it.

Anyway, I was just curious. Happened to remember that experience tonight and decided to try to find out something about what could cause such a thing and that's how I ran across this thread.

Stop listening to crappy mp3 quality and say no to cheap headphones.
Good speakers, solid amps and use FLAC.

FLAC and don't look BACK.
