How the GOP presidential candidate and his private equity firm staged an epic wealth grab, destroyed jobs – and stuck others with the bill

By Matt Taibbi
August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET

The great criticism of Mitt Romney, from both sides of the aisle, has always been that he doesn't stand for anything. He's a flip-flopper, they say, a lightweight, a cardboard opportunist who'll say anything to get elected.

The critics couldn't be more wrong. Mitt Romney is no tissue-paper man. He's closer to being a revolutionary, a backward-world version of Che or Trotsky, with tweezed nostrils instead of a beard, a half-Windsor instead of a leather jerkin. His legendary flip-flops aren't the lies of a bumbling opportunist – they're the confident prevarications of a man untroubled by misleading the nonbeliever in pursuit of a single, all-consuming goal. Romney has a vision, and he's trying for something big: We've just been too slow to sort out what it is, just as we've been slow to grasp the roots of the radical economic changes that have swept the country in the last generation.

The incredible untold story of the 2012 election so far is that Romney's run has been a shimmering pearl of perfect political hypocrisy, which he's somehow managed to keep hidden, even with thousands of cameras following his every move. And the drama of this rhetorical high-wire act was ratcheted up even further when Romney chose his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin – like himself, a self-righteously anal, thin-lipped, Whitest Kids U Know penny pincher who'd be honored to tell Oliver Twist there's no more soup left. By selecting Ryan, Romney, the hard-charging, chameleonic champion of a disgraced-yet-defiant Wall Street, officially succeeded in moving the battle lines in the 2012 presidential race.

"With an eye made quiet by the power of harmony and the deep power of joy, we see into the life of things." William Wordsworth

And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address

Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests:

"Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world."

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein

A perfect subject for Taibbi to sink his teeth into.

The entire purpose of the business model that Romney helped pioneer is to move money into the archipelago from the places outside it, using massive amounts of taxpayer-subsidized debt to enrich a handful of billionaires. It's a vision of society that's crazy, vicious and almost unbelievably selfish, yet it's running for president, and it has a chance of winning.

But no mention of Stericycle?

Are there really any "Romney-tards". I doubt it. No one likes Romney, they just hate Obama more. Have you ever seen a Romney bumper sticker? I haven't. And I live in a big city in Texas.

I think Obama is doing exactly what the globalists wanted and he is doing a great job at destroying America for them so it can be absorbed into the NWO. Romney is a sub par candidate put in by the globalists just to make sure Obama gets re-elected.

Either way, we are screwed. Ron Paul was the solution and too many failed to see it.

The FACT is that, whatever his faults, Romney is 10 times the man Obama ever will be, has paid more taxes than Obama ever will, has given more to charity than Obama ever will, has created more jobs than Obama ever will, has created more wealth than Obama ever will and has done more to truly help others than Obama ever will. Those are the FACTS.

Bain was a vulture takeover firm.
Not ONE of the companies they took over
were capable of survivial "as is".. the
writer of this biased, misleading hit piece
should be looking at WHY and HOW the companies
Bain took over FAILED before Bain had to step
into the picture !
That's what Bain did... takeover bankrupt companies.
They did NOT bankrupt them, they had all already
failed.
