One of the most important aspects of conspiracy theories is being able to discern when there isn't one.

Oh yeah, like you'd understand anyway.

There are 3 more months of hurricane to go yet! September is a bad month for them. October and November they taper off. A bad thing that can happen is to have hurricane on top of a hurricane.

I was just saying to my wife, watch this storm drop rain up the Mississippi valley. Causing flood concerns for days and it all ends up back near NOLA.

Only blessing is the lack of rain in the mid states will help absorb the initial rain fall.

I have heard that if ground is too dry/hard, then the water runs right over it and doesn't soak in or get absorbed.

Yes...true. i live in Arizona and that is precisely what happens. We always hope for a light, soaking rain before a hard monsoon so the ground can absorb more. But if not..the torrential rain just sends rivers right over the top in flash floods.

In fact there have been reports from farmers in drought areas that the soil is so dry and cracked that a big downpour would only wash over the top and not soak in. Sad situation.

The whole country is in a sad situation. I wish more people would just take time to get on their knees in earnest prayer....and have a heart to reach out and help the ones who need and can't help themselves.

Could make more difference than anything.u2efine

My best friend lives near Lake Maurepas & hasn't had any water in his house until this morning at around 6AM when it started to creep under the door... I spoke with him about an hour & a half ago & they had 4 inches in the lower level and rising fast.

Just received word from my cousin in Mississippi. She installed a drainage system on her property and it is unable to keep up with the rain. Her yard is flooded and the water is getting close to coming in the house. (She is assuming it is from the relentless rain.) She is about 1/2 hour outside of Jackson (to the south) in an affluent neighborhood.

I have been real sick so I haven't been able to keep up with what is going on with the storm. I hope it ends soon.

There are a lot of variables in the runoff. Probably the three biggest are soil type, vegetation and ground cover. If the soil is clayey or silty then it isn't as "permeable" as say good topsoil where water will infiltrate quite easily. That is there are few open voids in the soil for water to seep into.

Vegetation also affects runoff, as certain types of vegetation can retard surface water flow more highly than others.

Finally, if you have a lot of rock outcrops water can just sheet flow over the ground surface.

Of course these are technical details and as usual this web site has little tolerance for details or facts.
