Why even have a convention and send delegates to vote if it is all just for show with no debate allowed and no roll call vote allowed to determine which side actually won the vote?

It was a complete and utter railroad on all issues before the convention. No votes were seriously taken--the teleprompter included "the ayes have it" and that's how it was always read. It was so obvious that by the end, people were just laughing at it.

The VA bus was hours late, so Morton Blackwell missed the rules meeting entirely. People on the bus reported it drove around the block and backtracked several times until they told them to just stop and let them walk. ND and IA buses were also late and were minority report states.

Repeated attempts to gain recognition from the floor to make any corrective motion whatsoever, let alone debate, were simply ignored. That's no real surprise, but many long time attendees were still surprised at the level this one went to. It would truly not have mattered to the outcome if no one had been in the seats.

From National Delegate Janis Holt:

Unfortunately, we were not able to stop the rules from being adopted as is. There was no chance for debate. It wasn't allowed.

Watch the video below of the rule change vote at the Republican National Convention 2012. There are clearly objections to the vote, and then it is clear that the vote was too close to call.

If you are a republican, just be aware you lost your right to ever decide the republican presidential nominee again. The 168 leaders of the party will decide for you,and there nominee can replace any delegate from any state to one he approves of.

Do not take my word for it.

[link to www.huffingtonpost.com]
the result will make state and local conventions irrelevant. And soon enough, the big convention will be irrelevant, too.

[link to blogs.ajc.com]
Which brings us back to the rule change up for approval by the convention on Tuesday, which — in 2016 — would give the Republican nominee the power to vet delegates to the national convention. In other words, the rule change would allow the nominee to pick those who will pick him/her.
“We’re asking activists to talk to every state party leader. The worry here is that you’re flipping the whole process on its head. It used to be that the grassroots chose the delegates, and the delegates choose the candidates. They’re essentially creating a rule where the candidate can disavow any delegate that doesn’t toe the line,” Kibbe said.

Re: Republican National Party rigs rules vote,Source* Texas GOP website, with proof.
Dear Fellow Delegate,

On Tuesday of this week, as Republican National Convention delegates, you and I will be voting on rules changes that could fundamentally change our Republican Party — and not for the better.

Over the years, I’ve served on the Louisiana and Virginia GOP Rules Committees. I currently serve on both the Republican National Committee’s Standing Committee on Rules and on the National Convention’s Committee on Rules and Order of Business.

I was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate in 1964, I was honored to serve on President Ronald Reagan’s White House Staff from 1981-1984, and I have attended every Republican National Convention Rules Committee meeting since 1972. My wife and I have contributed major donations to the Romney-Ryan campaign.

These rule changes are the most awful I’ve ever seen come before any National Convention.

I’m writing you today to urge you to join the growing effort to stop the worst-ever changes in this Rules Committee’s Report and to vote in favor of amendments to Rules 12 and 15. The Minority Reports will restore important rights and protections which state parties and grassroots Republicans would lose under the Rules Committee Report as written.

These amendments to Rules 12 and 15 are contained in Minority Reports supported by at least 25% of the members of this convention’s Committee on Rules and Order of Business.

It’s rare for Minority Reports to come before our national convention, but the issues involved here are vital to the future of our party.

I must tell you there is tremendous arm-twisting now to peel signers off of the Minority Reports.

Finally, whether on Minority Reports or on voting down the Rules, it will require at least six states’ delegations to insist upon a roll call vote.

I will not pretend that the deck is not stacked against us.

But many state leaders, liberty-minded activists, and grass-roots conservatives are up-in-arms as word of this power grab spreads.

Our convention will make this important decision Tuesday as some of our first work. Many folks skip these procedural sessions thinking nothing of importance occurs.

This year, that is far from the truth.

If the Rules Committee Report were to pass without adoption of the Minority Reports, it would amount to a power grab by Washington, D.C. party insiders and consultants designed to silence the voice of state party activists and Republican grassroots by:

*** Handing national party officials the power to change national party rules adopted by state and grassroots leaders at the Republican National Convention. For generations, the prohibition of manipulated changes in the national Rules of the Republican Party between national conventions has served as one of the crown jewels of our party. It’s a power grab which opens the door to many future power grabs.

*** Stripping state parties in all states with binding primaries of the power of choosing who will represent their states as national delegates and alternate delegates.

This outrageous change would empower presidential campaigns to disapprove and remove delegates and alternate delegates selected by rules adopted by state Republican parties. Rather than grassroots activists who won delegate and alternate delegate slots by following state party rules, a large majority of positions would be handed to top donors of the winning campaign.

*** Gutting the great and successful reform adopted in the current election cycle to stop the dangerous trend to front-load the selection of national convention delegates. Our party would move again toward a national primary which would deny grassroots Republicans the opportunity to vet presidential candidates in a nomination contest of reasonable length. This reform must not be abandoned.

Sounds like your eyes are beginning to peek open a bit. Indeed, why have a convention for a dog and pony show? You'll soon realize that the same applies to elections in general. The next POTUS has already been selected. Votes don't mean anything beyond giving people hope that the system works.

Do you understand?

You no longer have a voice in the Republican party.168 men will forever decide who the republican nominee for president it.There nominee can void any delegate from any state for any reason.Only those who are voting for the selected nominee can ever attend the national convention.

Democrats lost the right to choose with super delegates(party appointed) having more votes than the state delegates.

Now neither party lets the people in the USA have any say in who runs for president.NONE.

Who Are Super-Delegates?
Super-delegates include the following:
Elected members of the Democratic National Committee (~450)
Democratic Governors
Democratic US Senators and US Representatives (including non-voting delegates)
Distinguished party leaders (current and former Presidents and Vice Presidents; former Democratic leaders of the Senate and House; former DNC chairmen)
Unpledged "add-on's" chosen by the DNC

grass roots elected or unpledged, unpledged, can't say that enough: unpledged.

those little inconveniences that blur the waters such as being allowed any sense of dignity or a moments peace are little more than collateral damage which doesn't fail to deliver thereby in equal measure that which it hath denied, giving way to more important events at hand and to follow, to wit

option two: leave it

know this, you will do so without a prayer or even the ghost of a chance in that same hell you've aligned yourselves beneath and behind with much hope and little truth to cover your asses from your just desserts in every other mans regard when it suited you. guess what? it suits me now that it be so. at least you have the honor of choosing the bed in which you will sleep, eh? gratitude, we will discuss that at some later date, perhaps

oh yeah, and we won't forget the GRAVY

there is always more of that in store for they who can't seem to get enough regardless of the fact that they've left their brethren in worse predicaments before they've had the opportunity to crook their dainty digit around someone elses morning tea...

I think they'll be thrilled to know we've forgone the offer of crumpets for the few and will from this time forward be serving up trumpets for all, all round

on the house

; )

as for tonights self promoting circus performance following suit with it's nature and course, quite naturally and of course indeed... expect more of same and be entertained at the expense of the real buffoons, on their own dime this time, up front and oh so personally in those blinding spotlights which they have always so craved, hitherforth will the captors serve as form of amusement in the midst of their own folly on parade

all rhetorical queries in this matter may be filed in triplicate with the rest of the kingdoms empty votes... and while the devil enjoys his due this time the children of the kingdom shall eat cake, no charge.

enjoy

you've earned it in spades
