Work began by the Siberian Lake Baikal to create a unique gamma ray observatory, which will span 100 square kilometers in one of the world’s cleanest places, researchers said on Sunday.

The expansion will make Tunka the only research center in the world to simultaneously study all kinds of cosmic high-energy gamma rays, including neutrinos, gamma quanta and atomic nuclei, Arguchintsev said. The information contributes to our understanding of the evolution of the Universe, he said.

Construction of Rs. 1,300-crore underground observatory in Theni district will start next year

An action plan is ready to establish a major research laboratory in Madurai for detector development meant for the ambitious Rs.1,300-crore India-based Neutrino Observatory(INO) project coming up in Theni district.

The Research and Development lab in Madurai will be a national facility that would be the nodal centre for the underground INO project.

related? We have observed a very unique emission of radio radiation from the centre of our galaxy, the Milky Way. By using different methods to separate the signal for very broad range of wavelengths, we have been able to determine the spectrum of the radiation. The radiation originates from synchrotron emission, i.e. electrons and positrons circulating at high energies around the lines of the Magnetic Field in the centre of the galaxy, and there are quite strong indications that it could come from dark matter," explains Pavel Naselsky, professor of cosmology at the Discovery Center at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen.

I have always heard them describe neutrinos as a partical in another demention. It doesn't really interact with our world traveling threw us without hitting our atoms, like a different frequency. So if there being detected stronger are they changing frequency to our world or are we changing to its ?

Some 3,300 astronomers had registered for the conference, and most of us were in our seats when IAU president Robert Williams walked onstage with Vice President Xi.

Xi’s speech focused on international collaboration, which will be essential for several big projects on China’s horizons: plans call for completion of an enormous radio telescope 500 m (1,640 feet) across in 2016, work is being planned on a new telescope on Dome A (Antarctica’s highest ice feature), and several space missions are in the works. The conference newspaper, Inquiries of Heaven (named after an ancient book of Chinese poetry written thousands of years ago), carries the full translation of Xi’s speech.
