Screeching in my head!
I have this high pitched screeching in my head is used to be intermitent but in the last year or so its always there. According to
[link to www.audiocheck.net]
The tone is about 4000 hertz at 70 decibels....put on your earphones to get the full effect....it is distracting and I have trouble focusing on what people are saying because of it.....I took the hearing test and the results were normal...
Anyone else experience anything like this??
Thanks

Re: Screeching in my head!
Tinnitus from the Latin meaning "ringing" is the perception of sound within the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound. Tinnitus is not a disease, but a condition that can result from a wide range of underlying causes: neurological damage (multiple sclerosis), ear infections, foreign objects in the ear, nasal allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain, or wax build-up. Withdrawal from a benzodiazepine addiction may cause tinnitus as well. In-ear headphones, whose sound enters directly into the ear canal without any opportunity to be deflected or absorbed elsewhere, are a common cause of tinnitus when volume is set beyond moderate levels.

Re: Screeching in my head!
Ive considered the tinnitus thing...could be I suppose, but it really "sounds" like its in my brain...not my ears...I have a buddy said he had this until he cracked his skull open...then it went away, have another friend who hears a classical song in his head all the time....unrelated Im sure...I just dont trust doctors too much....Maybe Im making to big of deal of it...but its maddening...it used to be on and off....only when I listened for the tone...but now its always there.

Tinnitus. You may have hearing loss... or not... either way, your brain is making up for the lost signal it is used to getting by creating it's own. Phantom sound basically.

Good luck. It is rare that tinnitus is cured.
