Re: 1K per month on food for ONE person......
You must have a very high income, OP. My DH gives me $220 a week out of his meager paycheck and out of that I have to pay the electric, phone, internet and water bills and then put a little gas in my car and then buy food and other necessities of life (no rent, mortgage or car notes to pay). I do all that for under a thousand a month! We get no government handouts or food stamps at all, but by the grace of God we are able to make it. He always brings us through! I see the poster above mentioned rib eyes steaks. Tonight while in Walmart I picked up a tossed away receipt (as I was hoping to find one for meat as I want to do a rebate that is running out soon) and this had meat on it alright. Four rib eye steaks all priced between $16 and $22 each! Of course at the bottom of the receipt it shows they paid with an EBT card! Tons of other pre-packaged goodies on that receipt, too. Those folks be eatin' good! MMMMM...MMMMM..MMMMM... I have to wait till this weekend to get to a store that has hamburger for $1.79 a pound so we can have some beef.

Hello all from the great over taxed nation of Canada, Ontario!

I am here just to piss and moan. I live by myself, feed myself and make a respectable wage. I was looking into my finances as of late and calculated something that i found rather shocking!

Over the past month I have spent over 1000 dollars on food alone.... for one person. Now, I am a bit of a fitness nut so I do eat fresh fruits, veg and quality meats.... but 1K? Food prices are getting a bit out of hand i think.

Not like I'm an obese person either. I am 190Lb with rather low body fat percentage.

I just got back from 11 days in Ontario Canada, just my wife and my self and we managed to spend over 1000.00 on food for just the 2 of us including tim hortons of course. Any way the price of food is way high in Canada comparably to Florida!

Try watching for sales and stock up when things are cheaper. I used to pay no attention at all to food prices, just bought whatever I wanted within reason and organic whenever available. Can't do that any more! Now I get the weekly coupon /sales flyer and see which store has the best deals on certain staples. For instance a couple of months ago a nearby supermarket had twenty pound bags of rice for $7.00. They are usually $12.00, so I went and bought two bags. I'm sure that will last me well into 2014! I did the same when pasta went on sale for fifty cents a box, I went and bought twenty pounds for ten dollars, it will be ahwile before I run out of pasta. I saw six bags of lentils in a discontinued cart, four pounds each bag for only two dollars, bought all six bags. Hunts large cans of peeled tomatoes were fifty cents a can, I bought twenty cans. Thinking like this has made a difference in my grocery bill! You can also buy in bulk online, some places do free shipping if you buy a large enough order.
