Or, another theory (I know it's crazy), CERN is a particle accelerator built to conduct experiments in particle physics to further understand the nature of matter and energy. Just like it says it is.

But that's not as exciting as believing it's a magic gateway to Doomland, so whatever. Personally I think it exists to transport Cthulhu from his dwelling beneath the waves onto land so he may wreak his horrible destruction upon us all. But then my life is boring and so I like to make up unfounded nonsense to believe in so the world will be a more exciting place.
