OLD BRIDGE — Police have cordoned off a large section of a shopping center at Route 9 and Downing Street in Old Bridge after receiving reports of an apparent shooting this morning.

Police this morning would only say they are still investigating.

The incident apparently occurred in the area of a Pathmark shopping center.

Officers were able to remove some people from there. The store was not open at the time.

It is uncertain if anybody has been injured, though ambulances are on the scene.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m.

Authorities were called to the Pathmark on Route 9 in Old Bridge at about 4 a.m. It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the shootout, nor was it known if the gunman killed himself or was shot by authorities.

There was a confrontation with the gunman, who was reportedly in body armor, and the suspect was killed.

One of the victims in the NJ grocery store shooting was just 18 years old, an official said.

The gunman was 23 years old.
