Quoting: novamom What I think is happening is the U.S. administartion sees that Iran's economy is tanking and hoping that people will see what type of person Ahmadinejad and will hopefully vote a different political personality into office. The United States does not want to go to war, but the only way to stop it is to have a regime change; one who will work with the West. With that being said, I cannot see anybody from Iran being put into office that the west could trust... just look at Egypt. Anyway, while it's been rather quiet, we are still hearing about how terrible Ahmadinejad is and what happend in Lybia. These little stories are to keep the publics focus off of what is soon to be a rather large operation in Northern Africa. I give it about one month tops before we start seeing more stories coming from Sudan, Somalia, the Congo, and the rest of the counties in the northern part of Africa. The U.S. is already there and they are quietly building and filling up bases. I think ahmadinejad was reelected either this or last year, but you may be right No there will be elections again bc dinnerjacket is stepping down next year. that is why it was his last UN visit last week. real change, forgive that aweful term, would not happen unless the mullahs are removed from power. otherwise its the same story for last almost 40 years, only with a new face. unfortunately most outside of Asia minor don't understand this as they hear the term president and think automatically he is the guy calling the shots. he's not. if amadinnerjacket wants to eat rice pilaf foe dinner the mullahs get asked first. I've majored in near east studies, I'm fluent in Persian and Arabic and know the cultural and historical background. not only is this a showdown of military proportions but its also an ideological showdown akin to ancient history when the Greeks were forced to deal with a growing Persian threat. this is a continuation of an ideological east v west battle that has raged since the dawn of civilization . its gone hot at times and been dormantly cold at other times but right now its white hot and for the first time in over 1000 years the western world looks weak politically to the eastern agitators and they are smartly acting upon our weakness. Yes, it is all on the Mullahs, but I do not think the blame is going to be put on them, especially when the economy is getting very bad. Funny how this theocracy works.. something bad happens to the country, it's the "presidents" fault.. Something good happens, it's because of the mullah. Dinnerjacket is nothing more than a scapegoat when trouble happens. |

In most cases, success kills. The terrorists blow up something (or someone) significant and they finally get all of the attention they wanted (and more)....The public realizes that they actually have nothing to offer....Law enforcement moves in...a couple of show trials later....it's all over.... So why is AQ still around? September 11th should have been their great (fatal) success. They have no grand philosophy, no plan for governance ...They didn't even have a good follow-up attack planned. They are still around for one reason - Iraq...By putting Western forces on the ground in a Moslem country - we created a whole new generation of AQ and extended its lifespan by at least 10 years (and counting).. So, now we have AQ in Eastern Libya - Derna - The town that has spawned more suicide bombers (per capita) than any other...And we're going to send Western troops in? We cannot be that stupid...Can we? Libya Update - PM-elect Abushagar's MB-filled cabinet has not been well received...Last night Libya Herald reported: "Congressmen have reacted with fury at the proposed government of PM-elect Abushagur and vowed to vote against its ratification... "I can say with 100 per cent certainty that Congress will not vote for it”, said Ahmed Langi, a Benghazi congressman and one of the leaders of a recently established group of independent legislators... Then today - Protesters from Libya's 5th largest city, Zawiyah, stormed the national assembly to protest the new cabinet. Around 150 demonstrators walked into the hall where congress meets, forcing the cancellation of a session to study the nominations. According to R**ters, protesters gathered in Zawiyah's main square last night and then today a group travelled to Tripoli to voice their anger. The good news is that the disruption ended the GNC's debate on the proposed cabinet - which had turned into a blame the ex-pats session. Both new PM Abushugar & out-going PM Keib spent most of the last 30 years in the USA. President-elect Magarief spent the last 35 years either in the UK or the US....NTC PM Jibril spent 20 years in the US - but he had returned to Libya in 2007 (The others returned in 2011). Libyans have noticed that the "Americans" really don't have that much in common with them... Zawiyah is an interesting city. It's west of Tripoli. Primarily Arab, it serves as a shopping hub for surrounding Amazigh towns. The Amazigh were early & active supporters of the uprising but they have not been represented in the transitional government. It is also near the traditional area of the Warshafana tribe which is described as Pro-G...It is close to Sorman - where Saadi Gaddafi's father-in-law's compound was bombed.. Note - BBC says protesters are from Zawiyah and Zuwara...Doubtful they would drive in together - Zuwara is an Amazigh town closer to Tunisian border... Finally, late today (Libya time) PM Abushagur spoke on Libyan TV. He is withdrawing his proposed cabinet list, and he will deliver a new list on Sunday. Actually, this kind of oops let's try that again act has become fairly common in Libyan politics - it may be a holdover from Gaddafi's mercurial management style.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20610884 Better than an invasion of the US by communists, muslims, Russians, and Chinese. LOL in your dreams. No way they could pull that. Want to really get invaded?? Invade half the middle east and go bankrupt... and then you'll be so weak that you can be invaded. We could go bankrupt a 1000 times it will never change the fact that we OWN all the f'in bullets. Big bullets and Small bullets we 0wn them all. There is a reason why our military budget is larger then the combine military budgets of the entire world.... Because we are mean, nasty, son of bitches that have a weak spot for our neighbors...Brought to you courtesy of the red white and blue. Oh wait, one more little tiny fact: The estimated total number of guns held by civilians in the United States is 270,000,000 Just in case that number is lost on you, that Two Hundred Seventy MILLLLLLLLLION guns.
