State media says Turkey's Parliament has approved a bill authorizing the military to conduct cross-border operations in Syria after a deadly shelling from the Syrian territory killed five civilians.


The Anadolu Agency says legislators on Thursday voted in favor of the bill that gives the government authority for one year to send troops or warplanes to strike Syrian targets whenever it deems it necessary. (AP)

Of NATO forces. turkey has been quite apprehensive of actually using its own forces to do much of anything besides fight Kurdish rebels. Whether Turkey does more is still something to be seen, but things still are not as hot as they could be.

Israeli border, there is much going on too, but so far nothing is being caught by the news.

Yes, it is all on the Mullahs, but I do not think the blame is going to be put on them, especially when the economy is getting very bad. Israel could go it alone scenerio:

Just some thoughts not entirely thought out but would love some input. I'll keep it short.

1) Russia gets Georgia.

2) S Korea takes out pesky N Korea with our help. China wouldnt mind, I think. Good trade prospects. China may insist on Taiwon, though. (sticky wickit there)

3) USA in Afgh along with India keeps Paki in check. Drones are already in Paki.

4) USA in Hormuz region keeps straits open, could wipe out Iran navy if attacked, protects Saudi, and helps keep Egypt in check. Everyone would support this defensive posture.

5) USA in Med helps with Egypt and Leb.

6) Turkey vs. Syria????


Now Israel could go 1 on 1 with Iran (still a tough nut) and if Iran steps out of that direct conflict we have the right to protect. Also, anyone who would help Iran is held at bay. USA is not defending Israel, only the WORLDS oil.

I think Russia and China would go for this. It just came to me last night. I would love some feedback. You all have studied this and I'm sure you can tear many holes in it. Please do. I won't be offended.

To stay out of it all. Obahmah has never liked Euorpean nations determining the politics of the World. He blames the western forces for manipulating and taking advantage of the various peoples of the World and he still holds a grudge. That is why he wishes to disarm America fo nuclear weapons and limit our sphere of influence. He too likewise wishes to see the same from NATO.

Why a draft? we don't need more boots on the ground to do the job..

I don't recall a Republican President ever instituting a draft.

Who takes care of hezbollah? Israel cant i think. since all resources will have to be directed towards iran. you know the key target is natanz and thats gonna take a while since they have to hit it multiple times.

At some point the UN or NATO would have to help out. Plenty of Europeans to take care of Hez and Hamas. This is still a very general outline and I'm sure things will happen differently. This is also a very broad conception (WW3). I just thought #6 was about to come to pass.

yes it seems its about to start but things will probably not be the way the west & israel think. as soon as syria gets invaded or a fly zone israel is looking at a lot of heat from a number of arab countries. remember the attack on lybia? yesterday i heard theres no us personal left there, they dont seem to be able to handle lybia what about the other countries?

I was talking with my son last night about the possibility that the Obama admin was pushing the "video" reason for Lybia so that it would enflame the ME into starting something. If we said it was a terrorist (planned) attack it would not rile them as much. If we admit that it was because of the movie then it would make all of the muzzies pissed and possibly attack, revolt, etc. The point is that we (and Israel) would REALLY like it if we can say that we didn't start it. (not that it would help world opinion much anyway). As much as I hate our admin right now, I can't imagine them being so stupid. Plus they are being advised about strategic moves to get us in the "righteous" position for a fight.

On Topic Today - The Mess that is Libya....

Before I begin.... I wanted to address the rumors re: impending US military actions in Libya. Drones & increased intelligence? - okay.... Boots on the Ground (in any form)? - you have gotta be smoking something G left behind....

What is kryptonite to terrorists? Strange but true - Success...

From 19th century anarchists to 1970s communists every terrorist organization has fallen victim to it's own success. Rarely (in extremely rare cases) success means the terrorists take over - blowing up the man no longer works when you are the man...So when the terrorists take over they have to change into something else....

In most cases, success kills. The terrorists blow up something (or someone) significant and they finally get all of the attention they wanted (and more)....The public realizes that they actually have nothing to offer....Law enforcement moves in...a couple of show trials later....it's all over....

So why is AQ still around? September 11th should have been their great (fatal) success. They have no grand philosophy, no plan for governance ...They didn't even have a good follow-up attack planned. They are still around for one reason - Iraq...By putting Western forces on the ground in a Moslem country - we created a whole new generation of AQ and extended its lifespan by at least 10 years (and counting)..

So, now we have AQ in Eastern Libya - Derna - The town that has spawned more suicide bombers (per capita) than any other...And we're going to send Western troops in? We cannot be that stupid...Can we?

Libya Update - PM-elect Abushagar's MB-filled cabinet has not been well received...Last night Libya Herald reported: "Congressmen have reacted with fury at the proposed government of PM-elect Abushagur and vowed to vote against its ratification... "I can say with 100 per cent certainty that Congress will not vote for it”, said Ahmed Langi, a Benghazi congressman and one of the leaders of a recently established group of independent legislators...

Then today - Protesters from Libya's 5th largest city, Zawiyah, stormed the national assembly to protest the new cabinet. Around 150 demonstrators walked into the hall where congress meets, forcing the cancellation of a session to study the nominations. According to R**ters, protesters gathered in Zawiyah's main square last night and then today a group travelled to Tripoli to voice their anger.

The good news is that the disruption ended the GNC's debate on the proposed cabinet - which had turned into a blame the ex-pats session. Both new PM Abushugar & out-going PM Keib spent most of the last 30 years in the USA. President-elect Magarief spent the last 35 years either in the UK or the US....NTC PM Jibril spent 20 years in the US - but he had returned to Libya in 2007 (The others returned in 2011). Libyans have noticed that the "Americans" really don't have that much in common with them...

Zawiyah is an interesting city. It's west of Tripoli. Primarily Arab, it serves as a shopping hub for surrounding Amazigh towns. The Amazigh were early & active supporters of the uprising but they have not been represented in the transitional government. It is also near the traditional area of the Warshafana tribe which is described as Pro-G...It is close to Sorman - where Saadi Gaddafi's father-in-law's compound was bombed..
Note - BBC says protesters are from Zawiyah and Zuwara...Doubtful they would drive in together - Zuwara is an Amazigh town closer to Tunisian border...

Finally, late today (Libya time) PM Abushagur spoke on Libyan TV. He is withdrawing his proposed cabinet list, and he will deliver a new list on Sunday. Actually, this kind of oops let's try that again act has become fairly common in Libyan politics - it may be a holdover from Gaddafi's mercurial management style....
