also talk about the us strategic reserve being used, which owuld also push prices down
 Quoting: Swinburnian

Obama administration denied that - Monday (I think) - There was a R*uters article - I'll look for link....I think that was debunked....
 Quoting: DarbyDoom

you're good! another thing that has an impact on oil prices is refinery capacity -- and a mexican refinery is out of action -- wouldn't have a huge impact, but some.
 Quoting: Swinburnian

I stand corrected....

On the 17th - There were no current plans to tap reserve - here's a link...

White House Not Tapping Oil Reserves Now | Fox Business [link to fxn.ws]

But today - several sources reported that they may tap the reserves - link coming - this is after prices had dropped...

No link - my source R*uters - reported that a White House spokesman stated today (Wednesday) that US may tap strategic reserves....

No time to find another source - My 13 year old daughter is thinking about quitting school to join the circus - middle school drama outweighs doom - yet again
 Quoting: DarbyDoom

Oh the joy of middle school and daughters. I almost forgot. It's been a while for me, thanks for the smile! I think we all need it today.

I don't have a good link for this info, but I listen to a radio show overnights called Texas Overnight. No relation to the other guy, Charlie Jones actually doesn't like him and hates it when asked if they're related. He mentioned last night, that one of his semi-regular guests, SMSGT. Jess Johnson, warned of attacks coming very soon in this country. Jess isn't on very often, but I've listened when he's been on. I think he's for real. I know we've talked about this possibility before, so it's not totally new. Just another confirmation.

Charlie only does podcasts of the Sunday night/Monday morning show as it's a financial show with a forensic accountant. That show is worth your time to listen to, also.

Here's a link to listen.

[link to dfw.cbslocal.com]

He's on live 12m to 4 am Central time, Sunday-Thursday

And it begins:

Popularity Of Greek Neo-Nazi Party Continues Surging

There is a reason why we called the graph of youth unemployment in Europe 'the scariest chart' as quite simply, it is the leading indicator for what most call 'social unrest' - but some would call 'uprising'. In somewhat stunning news today, not only do a majority (54%) of Greeks no longer trust any political party, but the popularity of the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn has risen dramatically since May. According to Ekathimerini, the popularity of Golden Dawn's leader Nikos Mihalolioakos has risen ten points since May to an incredible 22%. More than 1 in 5 Greeks now support the neo-nazi party as the general disillusionment with mainstream political parties - who are seen as lying to get votes - grows stronger. 85% believe that the new measures planned by the government to take affect them personally or another member of their family and 68% are against the terms of the EU's bailout.

An ad running in Florida:

[link to videoshare.politico.com]

Unreleased Gallup survey data found 70 percent of Jewish voters saying they would support Obama to 25 percent for Republican nominee Mitt Romney. The data, which were reported by Buzzfeed, is from Gallup’s daily tracking polls from July 1 through Sept. 10 and is based on a sample size of 828 registered Jewish voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Given that the Jewish voters vote in higher numbers than the average voter, this could be significant.

"There were apparently two main motivations for Obama to hew to the narrative that the video was the cause of the attacks and that the Libya uprising was spontaneous.

First was ideological. The President and his team share the worldview that within the root cause of anti-American terrorism and aggression is the insensitivity and foreign policy of the United States. While conservatives hold that it is a corrupt ideology that hates American-style freedom and tolerance, liberals hold that American aggression and insensitivity gave rise to understandable grievances among Muslims then exploited by a radical few."

Get through the holiday, give the US at least sufficient time to get its forces in place, though the US intends not to assist?! Trust me, it could blow earlier, but a betting man still would have their bets on October. Interesting issue is that Obahmah's refusal to discuss aything with Israel is due to the fact that the US knows Israel has made up its mind and the great O does not like it. Otherwise, O would meet in order to keep Israel from acting.

What the military trains its leaders to do is to be decisive, make a decision one way or another, but do not just sit there and do nothing. Of course, acquiring all relevant facts is always an aspect of that decision. In Israel's case, that decision had not been made up to a week or two ago if even then. Waiting is allowing the enemy to better plan and prepare.

I do have to note that the Israeli environment has changed significantly in the last couple weeks. The leaks have stopped. The in-fighting has died out. The military is drilling more and more. They would not do so just for show of force in feint, too costly. The moment is soon to rise over that horizon where action is instituted, but in history books, there will be discussion of the failures to act decisively when the moment requires it - be it in 2008 or 2005 or 2001.

Too Costly. That's the part that keeps me thinking. The war games next week off the coast of Iran... Too Costly. 25 countries showing up with their biggest and strongest.. Too Costly. Britian willing to put at risk their brand new HMS Diamond [link to en.wikipedia.org] Too costly. I could go on and on.

My thinking goes this way, how hard is it to get 25 countries to agree to anything? How hard will it be to have this happen again, after all these ships make for port? How long will it take to build this kind of strength off the coast of Iran?

This just doesn't add up for me. Maybe the decision process has been taken out of Obama's hands, any chance of that MM, Gerry?

The intent is to keep that Strait open. A timeline was given by someone, be it perhaps Obahmah was not smart enough or his empty chair was all that was present. Someone in the military planned this, maybe far enough out to allow Israel to act on its own accord with the information available. I could see military brass pointing to a calendar and letting Israeli planners know when might be an opportune time to protect itself. When might be a good tie to attack, when might be a good time to not attack.

Let the counties have just enough weapons to defend themselves, and start up social programs that keep the "2000 years old deep rooted culture" in check. So far so good... but the DNA is still the same. They have been beating the shit out of each other for a long long time, heaven for bid if they direct that mind set against an outsider.... they won't need no stickin gun... they'll use a rock tied to a stick..

China Versus Japan: Shooting War, Economic War or War of Words?

[link to www.zerohedge.com]

Interesting comment on the article:
From an American with Chinese parents (but I can't speak Chinese lol) and a Chinese gf...FWIW.

I don't think we (westerners) fully understand what's going on. We know there's a toxic mix of nationalism, WW2 memories, Chinese history (mostly bad memories and much of it self-inflicted), economic benefits and importantly "face" (both from Japan and China). So how does a deal get done where everyone saves face and gets what they want? 50/50 mineral rights? GF says Japan could probably have whatever they wanted if they just formally apologized for 1931-1945 but she's obviously biased.

My parents certainly feel this one can lead to a military blowup (they're in their 70s). Then again, they think if it takes invading Taiwan to bring it back to China, that's a good idea lol

Interesting Steven Clemons:
"Steven Clemons, editor-at-large of The Atlantic, says the two nations are probing the other’s weaknesses.

“It is really about China testing the United States and its alliance with Japan,” he told RT, adding that he expects the skirmishes to continue for a long time.

“What we are seeing today is a snapshot of what we are going to see for the next decade – or more.”"

"Indeed, while U.S. SecDef Panetta says that American military focus in Asia are not aimed at containing China, Panetta and other American leaders have previously hinted that any credible economic challenge to the U.S.(from China or elsewhere) will be considered an act of war.

Anyone who has 2 brain cells to rub together knows that the “long-game” of U.S. military shenanigans is to contain and weaken China. The U.S. wants to topple Syria’s Assad because he is a close ally with Iran, and the U.S. wants to topple Iran because it is a close ally with China."

I'd like to share one thing concerning those funny moh films and cartoons, which are my own thoughts:

The fact that those films, cartoons and interviews come out now, have one deeply underlying tendency:

Many people in the west do not believe any more, that they can win the contest of ideas, concerning liberties and way of life, with the moslims.

Thus the contest between cultures moves away from nice words towards another level: films and cartoons.

Notice, that this move is being made from artists, newspapers, writers and magazines (and periodically, since years).

The reaction to cartoons and films in the moslim world were predictable, and its effect are sinking in as a message in the broad masses, those people who do not read friedman and are not generally interested in politics.

Right or wrong is not my subject, but there is more in the works than just cartoons .... .

Just my 2 pences ... something to think about before falling asleep :-).

West warns Iran time running out for nuclear accord

The United States, Britain and France warned Iran on Thursday that time is running out for a negotiated settlement to the showdown on its nuclear program.

"Time is wasting," US ambassador Susan Rice told a UN Security Council meeting on nuclear sanctions against Iran.

The meeting was held amid mounting speculation that Israel is planning a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to speak at the UN General Assembly of world leaders next week.

Egypt army 'moves reinforcements to Sinai'

The Egyptian army sent military reinforcements to the Sinai on Thursday, security sources said, after authorities raised the alert level in the wake of the killing of a militant leader.

Around 50 tanks and armored vehicles were deployed to the eastern bank of the Suez canal for regular training, and to the northern Sinai city El-Arish for anti-terror operations, security sources said.

On Wednesday, Egyptian intelligence warned that "unprecedented attacks" were planned by jihadist groups against security headquarters in north Sinai over the next 48 hours, a security officer told Ma'an.
