Economic warfare seems to be working nicely...

Iran's rial dives 6 percent to new record low [link to www.dailystar.com.lb]

I bet things are getting bad for average Iranians - the Republican Guards are all fine - but working people probably have it pretty tough...

I once saw a documentary of th Siege of Leningrad - awful...

People forced to eat dogs, horses and eventually corpses...

One survivor remembered that their was a Communist Party official in her neighborhood...She was fat when the siege started and she remained fat throughout....

Darby, the doc's don't even tell all of the story. When we lived in the NL, we were friends with an elderly couple. They were in the resistance during WWII. The stories they told us would make you want to barf. My aunt grew up in Austria. She was a young girl during the war. With what she and her sister told us, I'm surprised they survived.

The people that are the most smart-ass about wanting war have NO idea what they're wishing for. Too many people think it's just like the video games. I look at the human, spiritual toll that it takes on people.

That is true, and that is very true.

War is never good.

But, there are reasons to take the decision to go to war. Bad reasons and very good reasons.

Again, you are right, war means lost generations, people dying and people traumatised, killing is not in the human nature ....

Yes, I've noticed...

Whenever I think of interesting people - I think of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where he takes on this giant heart-shaped hairball monster.

Bugs pretends to be a hairdresser and he gives the monster a permamanent (his pronouciation) w/ dynamite. While he's doing the monster's hair he says "Monsters are such interesting people..." "You meet such interesting people in this job"...

You are not a Debbie Downer -

War is a terrible thing....It is not "depressing" to remind people of that fact..

Tehran Declares Intent To Enrich Uranium To 90% For Military Purposes – Nuclear Submarines

Introduction
In recent months, Iranian regime spokesmen have conducted a campaign of statements regarding Iran's intent to enrich uranium for use in nuclear-fueled ships and submarines – the latter a patently military use of nuclear power. Regime officials, regime dailies, and websites close to the regime issued no fewer than 12 such statements, in which they declared Iran's intent to enrich uranium for nuclear fuel to power both surface sea craft and submarines. It should be noted that while nuclear fuel for surface craft entails uranium enrichment of 50-60%, nuclear-powered submarines require enrichment of 90%, which is the same level needed for the production of a nuclear bomb.
From its inception, this campaign of statements was meant as a counterargument to heightened Western sanctions. The regime said that in the face of sanctions restricting its use of oil, Tehran had no choice but to develop an alternative source of energy to fuel commercial transport, in order to maintain its ties with the world.[1] However, in what would seem a strategic error, regime spokesmen in their statements conflated nuclear fuel for surface vessels for use in trade, with nuclear fuel for submarines which are categorically designated for military use, not civilian use.
For this reason, after realizing that these statements had exposed Tehran's intentions to attain the 90% enrichment needed for a nuclear bomb, the Iranian regime has over the past month issued no further declarations regarding nuclear submarines. Moreover, several regime spokesmen backed down from the declarations, stating that Iran has no need at this stage for uranium enriched beyond 20%, and that the country is nonetheless capable of higher enrichment.
The following report will review these statements and the attempts to back down from them:

I guess I should explain a little better. First off, I have fibro-myalgia and possibly some new things. I'll find out more in a couple of weeks. We also had to work the hs football game last night in the rain. Not good for me or the poor girls up for homecoming queen! At least I had a coat on, they couldn't. That's why I feel lousy today.

The interesting people aren't interesting in a good way and everywhere I've read today, people seem to be imploding on themselves. I've had to pick up my jaw a couple of times today. I think OPSEC is in order around here (the forum, not the thread), too. Things are being posted out there that maybe shouldn't be. Buttons are being shoved lately, too, and not just pushed. Just chalk it up to a mom's caution, I guess. Things just don't seem right. Ok, rant off.

I still ended up on the computer every couple of hours and ranting to my husband over some of the posts in other threads. They may all be making things up to seem important. OT - Pippi Bean has been released & is on plane leaving Libya.

Pippi is a foreign aid worker (International Office on Migration which helps resettle refugees). She was detained in Tripoli last week. The Ministry of Interior (which runs national police force) was trying to force her to make a false rape allegation against an official with the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health has been mired in corruption charges. The official who was the intended victim of the smear campaign was investigating the misuse of government funds....

Back to the "Interesting People"...

Has anyone sent a DM to the people posting troop movement threads?

I'm sure that most of the posts are utter fantasy - but what if someone posts some actual information? I have seen messages on some of the threads warning people to be careful with what they post....

But the threads keeping showing up...

In WWII there was a German spy ring, the Kuehn family, that was incredibly effective. They were a family that ran a beauty parlor near a military base. They simply passed on the base "gossip" they heard at the shop...

With the Internet you don't even need a shop...

here's an excerpt about the Kuehns from Wikipedia -

His daughter dated U.S. military personnel and opened a beauty parlor that offered the best and cheapest services in the city. Wives of high-ranking military personnel would spend hours gossiping about the coming and going of their husbands and boyfriends. "They talked so much," she would later say, "that it was a relief when they left the place."

Asked whether his speech had essentially postponed any
possible resort to force until next spring or summer, Netanyahu said to Channel 10, “I’ve never spoken of dates,” and added that he had not “for a second” ruled out Israel’s possibility “to act at any moment.”

“Not for one second did I give up on Israel’s right to defend itself at all times,” Netanyahu reiterated to a Channel 2 interviewer. “I did explain that Iran is at an advanced stage of uranium enrichment and we can’t accept [a scenario] in which Iran completes this stage.”

I figured reminding people about OPSEC simply confirmed there was something to the post and since I do not want to do that I have not said anything publicly or privately. (especially since I do not know if there is any truth to what they are saying)

Hi everyone. Let me give you a true story about intel. Don't panic guys, it's an old story, but verifiable.

During Desert Shield, BBC had a late night show similar to our night line called NewsNight. They may still have it. In the build up to Desert Storm, the show got several retired admirals, colonels, and maybe a general...all senior officers. If you've ever seen the old WWII movies where the staff officers have a large table kind of thing where they move around ships, tanks, whatever, the show had one of those. The retired officers were so good at their professions, they were giving away the battle plans even though they had no idea what was going to be used. They were just saying what THEY would do.

BBC had to get them off the air right away. Hubs and alot of the guys actually got called in for discussing classified intel, when all they were doing was discussing the show from the night before.

Whether we "know" anything or not, OPSEC is real. I know, I learned a weird way myself. The night Desert Storm kicked off, hubs was working, the kids were asleep and I was bored with myself. I had just called the base for a couple of minutes for some reason and about a half hour later, I decided to call my folks. The 6 hour time difference made that fun! The phone connection was terrible, but there was a weather front coming in off the channel. I didn't think anything of it and when my dad mentioned it, I told him it was because there's a "storm coming across the channel". I had know way of knowing the bombers were coming from England or that the new name was going to be Desert Storm. Or phone was bugged for a VERY long time!

So...there you have it...FTW.
