Quoting: MIL MAN Get through the holiday, give the US at least sufficient time to get its forces in place, though the US intends not to assist?! Trust me, it could blow earlier, but a betting man still would have their bets on October. Interesting issue is that Obahmah's refusal to discuss aything with Israel is due to the fact that the US knows Israel has made up its mind and the great O does not like it. Otherwise, O would meet in order to keep Israel from acting. shouldn't even be waiting anymore What the military trains its leaders to do is to be decisive, make a decision one way or another, but do not just sit there and do nothing. Of course, acquiring all relevant facts is always an aspect of that decision. In Israel's case, that decision had not been made up to a week or two ago if even then. Waiting is allowing the enemy to better plan and prepare. I do have to note that the Israeli environment has changed significantly in the last couple weeks. The leaks have stopped. The in-fighting has died out. The military is drilling more and more. They would not do so just for show of force in feint, too costly. The moment is soon to rise over that horizon where action is instituted, but in history books, there will be discussion of the failures to act decisively when the moment requires it - be it in 2008 or 2005 or 2001. Too Costly. That's the part that keeps me thinking. The war games next week off the coast of Iran... Too Costly. 25 countries showing up with their biggest and strongest.. Too Costly. Britian willing to put at risk their brand new HMS Diamond [link to en.wikipedia.org] Too costly. I could go on and on. My thinking goes this way, how hard is it to get 25 countries to agree to anything? How hard will it be to have this happen again, after all these ships make for port? How long will it take to build this kind of strength off the coast of Iran? This just doesn't add up for me. Maybe the decision process has been taken out of Obama's hands, any chance of that MM, Gerry? The intent is to keep that Strait open. A timeline was given by someone, be it perhaps Obahmah was not smart enough or his empty chair was all that was present. Someone in the military planned this, maybe far enough out to allow Israel to act on its own accord with the information available. I could see military brass pointing to a calendar and letting Israeli planners know when might be an opportune time to protect itself. When might be a good tie to attack, when might be a good time to not attack. |

In France the right is on the rise, in Germany also. Quoting: ^àTOn^ The more the crisis hits and the more people looses trust in the political establishment, the more the tribal roots are taking control. And all those not belonging to the tribe will take the blame. Thats why, if I would be moslem in Europe, I would be afraid, very afraid. You cannot wipe out a 2000 years old deep rooted culture within one generation and a "thin sheet of democracy". THERE IS A LOT TRUTH IN THE ABOVE..... There is a reason why the political systems, I beleive, were set up like they were after world war 2. Let the counties have just enough weapons to defend themselves, and start up social programs that keep the "2000 years old deep rooted culture" in check. So far so good... but the DNA is still the same. They have been beating the shit out of each other for a long long time, heaven for bid if they direct that mind set against an outsider.... they won't need no stickin gun... they'll use a rock tied to a stick.. Example: look what we had to do to Germany to make them stop.. DblTapViper |

Thus the contest between cultures moves away from nice words towards another level: films and cartoons. Notice, that this move is being made from artists, newspapers, writers and magazines (and periodically, since years). The reaction to cartoons and films in the moslim world were predictable, and its effect are sinking in as a message in the broad masses, those people who do not read friedman and are not generally interested in politics. Right or wrong is not my subject, but there is more in the works than just cartoons .... . Just my 2 pences ... something to think about before falling asleep :-). |

"Time is wasting," US ambassador Susan Rice told a UN Security Council meeting on nuclear sanctions against Iran. The meeting was held amid mounting speculation that Israel is planning a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to speak at the UN General Assembly of world leaders next week. [link to www.ynetnews.com] |

Around 50 tanks and armored vehicles were deployed to the eastern bank of the Suez canal for regular training, and to the northern Sinai city El-Arish for anti-terror operations, security sources said. On Wednesday, Egyptian intelligence warned that "unprecedented attacks" were planned by jihadist groups against security headquarters in north Sinai over the next 48 hours, a security officer told Ma'an. Seems like we are all waiting for the other shoe to drop!!! don't get me wrong, not happy about it in anyway, hopefully those that have forced this to happen will be held to account. There is a kind of peace in sort of knowing what's coming even though you can't do anything about it really.
