OT - Syria - FT article on hardships caused by Syrian war..

It is hard now for anyone not to feel the effects of the conflict, whether they are regime supporters whose relatives in the security forces have been killed or the great numbers of people who have seen loyalists of the four-decade old Assad family dictatorship kill, jail or torture family and friends. Government artillery booms out from the Qassioun mountain that looms over Damascus – proof to all, if it were needed, that the regime is prepared to turn parts of the country to rubble to survive. . . .

While significant parts of Damascus still feel peaceful and ordered, with malls offering expensive clothes and coffee to dwindling clienteles, other areas tell a story of ever-expanding destruction. Cars draw a low, spooky hum from highways gouged by tank tracks. . .

An emeritus US panel was commissioned to study the costs of an attack on Iran...

Here is an Op/Ed discussing the report -

What’s in a war with Iran? [link to www.washingtonpost.com]

Here's an excerpt -
....

Iran is likely to retaliate directly but also to pursue an asymmetrical response, including heightened terrorist activity and covert operations as well as using surrogates such as Hezbollah. An increase in the price of oil could keep the market unstable for weeks or months and disrupt the global economy.

The conflict could also escalate into a regional war involving Syria, Hezbollah, the Palestinians and other Arab states and terrorist groups.
 Quoting: DarbyDoom

That's what I think, too. As soon you bomb Fordo you are in a major regional war and in economic disruption.

So think big, don't just bomb Fordo, but topple the mullahs, reduce their military capabilities to zero, and destroy their infrastructure, ah yes don't forget the nuke sites while at it.

Since there will be a regional war, get rid of Assad, Hisbollah, those Sinai al quaidas and hamas at the same time.

Just use this occasion to clean up the ME from all those flag burning islamists, just bomb the shit out of this place.

Mostly under the radar all weekend.

Interesting to note his morning the DeBKA analysis today. Israel bought time on enrichment cause of the Fordo failure.

The bigger problem is now Israell is facing an Iranian army along its border. More worrisome is that this army too is becoming armed with chemical weapons.

Many intelligence reports out there is armies gathering along the Israeli border and that some of these are Iranian and most are Iranian lead. Further, much to say of rumors about other assets being deployed in Syria from Iran including possible missile systems and even aircraft.

Israel's biggest problem is how long to wait before having to defend itself preemptive lay from this threat. Otherwise the threat will come to her.

Aton is right, Israel needs to go whoop ass for its survival.

It's a matter of getting Iran to act in a way that Israel can blame them for starting it. Israel will, by god, finish it.

Israel realized if they were to attack Iran that few would back them up. So they are waiting till they are attacked or threatened to the point when America realizes it time to back Israel.

No war in October ?
What about Syria ?
I can't think that we have until spring 2013 to see a major conflagration.
Syria/Hezbollah war will erupt in october no ? What do you think ?
So, Iran too.

America is gonna get screwed if it does not act now alongside Israel.
 Quoting: 4D Viewer

i don't know, i think they can manage to play it down, they said already it was no major movement, so everybody would ok with not acting because it was just a small movement, they do everything to prevent acting in syria
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24556212

You mean like from the 1,000 stockpile we only moved 10 that by sheer coincidence now make Tel Aviv within range?

No major movement in quantity, but sure a major one in quality or threat.

Every movement of chemical weapons should be considered as a threat. Even when they move some stock around a base.

There are only 2 things to consider with these weapons when they get moved;

a. The current location is unsafe, therefor the integrity of the weapons is unsafe.
response: Act and Intervene.

b. The weapons are re-deployed with a military strategy.
response: Act and Intervene.

Then he should let down his pants to be fucked publicly by Assad.

I'm not too surprised. I've found over the years, if you can catch the first report of an incident, it will have the most truth in it. They came out with too many versions of the story at the time. What I AM surprised at is, they actually let this get out. Good catch.

Well, we will see if that supression of text makes it.

The truth is, and that is reality, the house of saud, the kingdoms of the gulf, are actually those who give money to the terrorists.

That you need to scream out at the highest voice 7/7 days.

How is it possible ?

There are imams, mosques, which are sunni salafist, (salafist is normal for the gulf states, they are the sunni branch salafists), those mosques have money and they pay mercenaries, in order to for example fight in Mali, fight in Afghanistan, for example fight in Lybia, for example fight in Syria, and so on. I know that, in the arab countries, they know that. Why ? Because those people who fight are not even speaking the local language, they are from the gulf, afghanistan, they are not local.

I am a simple being on this earth. I know that.

It must be known to the US agencies and the US president.

It should be comon knowledge, but it is not. We treat our sacred gulf allies with lots of "understanding".

Is it Islam ? NOOOO.

Is it the salafists, the one hijaking islam, the extremist ? YEEES.

Our alliances are strictly fiscal military contracts, imo.

Overseas weapons sales by the United States totaled $66.3 billion last year, or more than three-quarters of the global arms market, valued at $85.3 billion in 2011.

Darby, the doc's don't even tell all of the story. When we lived in the NL, we were friends with an elderly couple. They were in the resistance during WWII. The stories they told us would make you want to barf. My aunt grew up in Austria. She was a young girl during the war. With what she and her sister told us, I'm surprised they survived.
