He was told by administration officials that the president would not change his mind about withholding US military intervention in Syria - especially after US intelligence briefed him last week that, according their latest assessment, Syrian President Bashar Assad would not hold out more than another six months. That is, until February-March 2013 at latest"

If true, we will see the world change within the next 6 month.

Re: WORLD at WAR, Official 2012 Thread (TO BE CONTINUED) Israel, Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, PA, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan, North Korea, Russia, China, U.S.
On Topic Today - The Mess that is Libya....

Before I begin.... I wanted to address the rumors re: impending US military actions in Libya. Drones & increased intelligence? - okay.... Boots on the Ground (in any form)? - you have gotta be smoking something G left behind....

What is kryptonite to terrorists? Strange but true - Success...

From 19th century anarchists to 1970s communists every terrorist organization has fallen victim to it's own success. Rarely (in extremely rare cases) success means the terrorists take over - blowing up the man no longer works when you are the man...So when the terrorists take over they have to change into something else....

In most cases, success kills. The terrorists blow up something (or someone) significant and they finally get all of the attention they wanted (and more)....The public realizes that they actually have nothing to offer....Law enforcement moves in...a couple of show trials later....it's all over....

So why is AQ still around? September 11th should have been their great (fatal) success. They have no grand philosophy, no plan for governance ...They didn't even have a good follow-up attack planned. They are still around for one reason - Iraq...By putting Western forces on the ground in a Moslem country - we created a whole new generation of AQ and extended its lifespan by at least 10 years (and counting)..

So, now we have AQ in Eastern Libya - Derna - The town that has spawned more suicide bombers (per capita) than any other...And we're going to send Western troops in? We cannot be that stupid...Can we?

Libya Update - PM-elect Abushagar's MB-filled cabinet has not been well received...Last night Libya Herald reported: "Congressmen have reacted with fury at the proposed government of PM-elect Abushagur and vowed to vote against its ratification... "I can say with 100 per cent certainty that Congress will not vote for it”, said Ahmed Langi, a Benghazi congressman and one of the leaders of a recently established group of independent legislators...

Then today - Protesters from Libya's 5th largest city, Zawiyah, stormed the national assembly to protest the new cabinet. Around 150 demonstrators walked into the hall where congress meets, forcing the cancellation of a session to study the nominations. According to R**ters, protesters gathered in Zawiyah's main square last night and then today a group travelled to Tripoli to voice their anger.

The good news is that the disruption ended the GNC's debate on the proposed cabinet - which had turned into a blame the ex-pats session. Both new PM Abushugar & out-going PM Keib spent most of the last 30 years in the USA. President-elect Magarief spent the last 35 years either in the UK or the US....NTC PM Jibril spent 20 years in the US - but he had returned to Libya in 2007 (The others returned in 2011). Libyans have noticed that the "Americans" really don't have that much in common with them...

Zawiyah is an interesting city. It's west of Tripoli. Primarily Arab, it serves as a shopping hub for surrounding Amazigh towns. The Amazigh were early & active supporters of the uprising but they have not been represented in the transitional government. It is also near the traditional area of the Warshafana tribe which is described as Pro-G...It is close to Sorman - where Saadi Gaddafi's father-in-law's compound was bombed..
Note - BBC says protesters are from Zawiyah and Zuwara...Doubtful they would drive in together - Zuwara is an Amazigh town closer to Tunisian border...

Finally, late today (Libya time) PM Abushagur spoke on Libyan TV. He is withdrawing his proposed cabinet list, and he will deliver a new list on Sunday. Actually, this kind of oops let's try that again act has become fairly common in Libyan politics - it may be a holdover from Gaddafi's mercurial management style....

Two points:

1. We can shot their F'in bullets out of the sky.

2. It takes boots on the ground to invade and take over a country. HELL there are people in the the south that are still fighting the Civil War - in their minds... just waiting to start it over again...

You can divide a population into thirds. One third will fight, one third won't and the last third will go with the strongest leader of the two groups. Now take the first third the ones that will fight, break it down into thirds... After you've done that a few time you are left with some determined people, to say the least - and guess who will train them... you know all those special forces guys that will be living in the woods... you know the meanest of mean..

Mali Update - France to push for UN resolution to encourage political and military response to Mali crisis

France announced Thursday it will circulate a draft U.N. resolution aimed at stepping up pressure on Mali’s government and its West African neighbors to agree quickly on a workable military plan to oust Islamic militants who seized the north and are turning it into a terrorist hub.

France’s U.N. Ambassador Gerard Araud said his government envisages a two-stage plan — an initial resolution to encourage a political and military response to the crisis in Mali followed by a second resolution that would give U.N. Security Council authorization to an African intervention force.

Interesting agreement here (sort of) - From the Voice of Russia - Is Mali the new Afghanistan?

Northern Mali has become a hotbed of terrorism, bloodshed and executions. But experts have long ago warned of the destabilizing aftermaths of NATO’s campaign in Libya. Now Mali is fast becoming the Afghanistan of Africa.

Troubles with Polisario in the Canary Islands?

The closer links being woven between Polisario and militants of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) are a source of growing concern in the Canary Islands. Spanish media sources blame Algeria, reporting that it is Algeria's strategy to export their internal problems beyond their own borders.

According to the Spanish press, the Polisario Defense Minister admitted that a group of Polisario fighters joined AQIM in Mali, while a second group of 14 men joined the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO). Officials fear that terror tactics common in the Sahel, such a kidnapping, may become more prevalent in the Canary Islands....

Source: Sahara News, October 3, 2012

Background - from Wikipedia -

POLISARIO is Sahrawi rebel national liberation movement working for the independence of Western Sahara from Morocco. The Polisario Front was formed in 1973 to end to Spanish colonization of Western Sahara. By 1975, Polisario controlled large swaths of territorry and a UN Mission concluded that Sahrawi support for independence was overwhelming. However, when Spain withdrew in 1976, Morocco took over the northern areas while Mauritania took control southern Western Sahara.

Polisario proclaimed the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in 1976, and waged a guerrilla war against both Morocco and Mauritania. After bombings by the Moroccan Air Force on Western Sahara, the Front relocated its headquarters to Tindouf (western Algeria). For the next two years, the movement grew as Sahrawi refugees flocked to camps and Algeria and Libya supplied arms and funding.

After repeated guerrilla incursions weakened its economy and finally led to a coup, in 1979 Mauritania signed a peace treaty and formally recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. King Hassan II of Morocco immediately claimed all of Western Sahara.

In the mid-1980s Morocco constructed a huge sand wall (the Moroccan Wall), staffed by an army roughly the same size as the entire Sahrawi population, which encloses the economically useful parts of Western Sahara. Today Polisario controls the part of the Western Sahara on the east of the Moroccan Wall, comprising about a third of the territory, but this area is economically useless, heavily mined, and almost uninhabited.

A cease-fire between Polisario and Morocco, monitored by the UN, has been in effect since 1991, on the promise that an independence referendum would be held the following year. However, the referendum was never held. In April 2007, Morocco suggested that a self-governing entity (autonomy rather than independence). In 2008, Polisario agreed to add autonomy to a referendum ballot, but has refused to relinquish the concept of independence. Morocco has stated that independence is unacceptable. The King of Morroco personally "owns" much of the occupied territory - on which he maintains large (and profitable) tomato farms.

"O"'s real plan seems to be coming along very well. Dragging the U.S. downward, while stregthening others. We have all kinds of money to help other countries, but why can't we help ourselves for once.

AFRICOM Funding

The fiscal year 2010 approved budget is $302 million for operations and maintenance of the headquarters, to pay salaries of civil service employees assigned to the headquarters, and to conduct various types of military-to-military programs, such as the Partner Military HIV/AIDS Prevention Program. These figures do not include the value of other support such as individual service expenditures and other sources that AFRICOM does not directly receive for execution, such as funding for exercises. In FY2009, the command executed $310 million in operations and maintenance funding. In fiscal years 2007 (our start-up year) and 2008, the command executed a combined $125 million.

Evidence first is that Syrian chemical warheads are in play. Second, Iran is facing severe economic conditions and protests will only get worse. Further, Iran knows its nuclear program is now film being reviewed by the CIA. They must either capitulate and give up enriching and even cave in a little for Obahmah or they will have to choose war to protect what they have and to get the heat off of them. Hezbollah would be a good force to use for this to start. The chance of war right now is extreme for Israel. Syria and Turkey is serious, but I do not see Turkeys leader acting out as he has yet to do so except towards Israel. He is more bluster verses anything else. Syria would have to be dumb to actually start it when Turkey need only flex her muscles and Syria seems to quake.

Many pieces in play. There are SF out and about for many purposes right now. They too have been recruiting for some key men who have chosen to go to the Guard verses stay in several years ago. Obahmah is leaning on special forces for different action to hide what has been done as that is the SF way. No one reports on what they do. Perfect for the fake peace president to wage war secretly.

That is just one twist of things going on.

In another document obtained by Al Arabiya and sent from Iran, Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, a division of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), addressed President Assad directly, affirming that the chemical warheads are ready to be relocated.

Correction: Have been relocated. Also, very heavy SOF presence in Iran causing physical damage as well as fomenting civil unrest, hate and discontent. They are being very successful so far.

Almost like a dream too good to be true. I can only hope this is shared with Israel ASAP before Obahmah buries it to prevent everyone from actually knowing how close Iran is to nukes! One siren just for dreaming this is true!

Now, if it is true, Iran has some scurrying to do ASAP either to start its war or hide the evidence.

That doesn't change the fact that israel need 100+ jets to take out 12 key targets, one of the would require quite a number of bombs to destroy. Plus a country to fly over and refuel jets

Not disagreeing with you but they have EMP bombs within missiles and they have missiles that can deliver other warheads without using planes, perhaps even drones. But really the EMP would do wonders to stop the uranium enrichment.

I speculate Obama saving NATO troops for this area...

The Arab revolutions have let Islamist extremist and fundamentalist Salafi groups off the leash in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt...

I just hope those in charge do not execute orders to stop before the job is done.
