For the love of God can't they wait until I have to go back to work before they start the apocalypse? eh the heck with it, make light of it, may not get another chance to. How bad is this likely to get? I'm thinking Israel will bomb the bejeebus out of Gaza and Hamas will go through the motions of a truce, and Israel will stop. Again. But if not, just how far will this go? Are we looking at a complete ground invasion and takeover? Sorry if these are stupid questions. Military tactics are not my strong point. AFter the rockets towards Dimona, Israel will act more agressively. Whether she actually sends in tanks and infantry, depends on whether the rocket fire dies off completely. She will seriously inflict as much damage as possible to ensure a long duration truce and as quikcly as possible to deflect international pressure. |

Quoting: Newshunter Four points to ponder, first, does Hamas think they are losing their political and literal life? If so they would wish to start launching said weapons when the fear of death becomes imminent so to hope there would be international support for a truce. Second, the long range missiles are on loan from Iran. THus, they must have a very good reason to use them verses lose them and it may require permission from Iran. Iran would not give permission without the hopes of an attack that could cripple Israel for a duration until Iran gets its nukes in order. Third, the missiles are a bargaining chip and if sued, there are no bargains. Fourth, Dimona was a red line, Hamas past by that red line, appears they would not fear passing another red line launchign a long-range missile on Tel-Aviv. That is, as long as Israel did not find all of them. |

Gives Israel a few days to reach these following goals as set out by Barak: The goals of the operation are as follows: * Strengthening our deterrence * To inflict serious damage on the rocket launching network * To deliver a painful blow for Hamas and the other terrorist organizations * To minimize damage to our home front When you review these goals, it truly seems less than likely that Israel must enter Gaza by land to do this. Instead, a ground operation is appearing less than likely at this time. |

What about the massing near gaza of troops and armor? Israel always wants to maintain the old saying which is a good offense is your best defense. I am not saying Israel will not go into Gaza, but unless they find that the missile fire keeps up and perhaps surprising new weapons are used, Israel can sit back on the border and just prepare as SF and the airforce can keep doing their job. If Hamas chooses to bring its forces to the border likewise (thousands of angry young men with rifles) then Israel can then directly sue its forces secured on the border. Again, things are very fluid right now. |

Report: IDF Reserve Soldiers to Be Called Up [link to www.israelnationalnews.com] Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser said Wednesday night that the Cabinet decided to allow the army, as appropriate, and with the approval of the Minister of Defense, to call up reserve forces. I do think the heat will begin to rise on the Northern and Eastern fronts, and accept that if I perceive those threats sitting here in the US, the IDF has more than planned/ are planning for those operational parameters and the contingencies that accompany them.
