Odds and Ends (But it all comes together)...

Last night there was an escalation in the tensions between Iraqi Kurdistan & Iraq....In the last couple of years, Iraqi Kurdistan has had greatly improved relations with Turkey (it always had good relations w/ US)...Iraq is now w/I Iran's sphere of influence. The current tensions may be coincidental, but I see them as a way to pin the not-so-reasonable Iraqi gov't of Nouri al Maliki down during any attack on Iran...

Thread: WTF - War In Iraqi Kurdistan?

The Washington Post reported that calm is returning to Jordan and the protests are de-escalating...This, in part, has been due to quite reasonable positions adopted by Jordan's MB (we don't want to replace the King - we just want reform) and new financial support from Egypt & the GCC...This means that Israel will have one relatively stable neighbor....

In case you haven't been following it, the Syrian rebels have created a new political structure, which was quickly recognized by Europe & they made some impressive military gains in the last week (seizing several military bases). Assad is in no position to take on Syria and a large number of Hezbollah military leaders have recently died in Syria...

I don't have a thread on Syria...(but Google news can give you background)

As many have noted on this thread, the Gaza strikes have greatly reduced Hamas's rocket stockpile & ability to strike Israel (particularly the longer range rockets)

Then, this morning, Iran admitted it has been arming Hamas...

It seems like the forces have aligned the make a strike on Iran feasible...once you have a ceasefire w/ Hamas....

Then, a female al-Fatah bomber potentially torpedoes the ceasefire....

Who made that chess move?
