My other half will be suspicious. We recently had a heated debate as to whether pure maple syrup (as opposed to the factory sludge crap) would be a valued commodity to barter after the economy hiccuped (imploded.) I insisted it was as good as gold... and now this.

It would appear there has been great unrest documented in the Canadian syrup industry as recently as 2007. The plot thickens (lol).

Right now, in warehouses around Quebec, millions of kilograms of surplus maple syrup are languishing in giant vats, unsold.

It appears Canada has bigger problems than just disappearing syrup.

After researching the $30 million maple syrup heist this morning, I stumbled over a raft of other bulk food thefts reported in Canada.

For instance, a "football field's worth" of potatoes was stolen from Richmond, British Columbia.
