I don't really give a shit about what you believe in unless you're trying to shove it down my throat or use it to justify obviously anti-human agendas.

It's a thing about respect, and judging by this thread you were never taught respect by your parents.

You make a good point. I have noticed myself in my atheist stage that I had a bone to pick with believers, and it was completely unnecessarily. A lot of atheists have a problem with how religious folk "impose" their beliefs on others without realizing they are doing the very same thing.

Also, and more interestingly, atheism is basically just the same as religion since god is the foundation and staple which the entire philosophy revolves around. Atheists believe in god just as anybody else does, as they spend just as much time thinking about god and discussing his/her existence. It is just a fancy word for "debate" in my opinion.

I'm not a Christian. I am of the faith that came before any popular religion today and I'm not speaking about pagan religion. I am speaking about religion as it was intended and devised, based on philosophical reasoning, extensive study and empiric evidence. God can be measured in a multitude of ways including something as simple as physical activity to something more complicated as science. I believe in the power of electricity, vibration, frequency, essentially things which constitute love. I believe that love can be used to heal, cure, teach, etc... but it is not the only staple in my religion. It is the underlying foundation for all the other things I find important. Love alone cannot solve all our problems so I do not come from any fantastical notion of world utopia by holding hands and singing kumbaya, or paying homage to a man whose lessons have been forgotten.. of course I am speaking of Christ. Christ returned would certainly not be a christian as taught today. Please understand there is a deeper area of knowledge and information that extends far beyond "Christianity" or "Atheism" these are pitiful fragments of divine information. They are pitiful forgeries of astoundingly clear and concise thought. Your responsibility is to educate yourself on the highest and lowest levels so that you can discern between lies and truth, but also have a foundation enriched by thousands of years of investigation done by the likes of Hermes, Pythagoras, Plato, and on and on and on and on... there are countless individuals with much to teach.

I believe in a creator, an ever loving and omnipotent one, an ever forgiving and compassionate one. This creator does not exist as a male or female. There are many barriers you must cross in order to find true divinity. Believe me "religious people" today are at best well trained in reciting words they do not understand but the true pursuit of god lies in heavy and deep study of the self and others.

Christians are stupid, braindead, brainwashed, silly, pathetic ass-holes who are hanging on to a hope of life eternal because they are too cowardly and have too much ego to admit they are simply mortals who will die and rot. They believe in stupid things that even children know aren't true, like talking snakes, and talking donkeys. If they don't wish to be laughed at and poked fun at, then they shouldn't believe such silly and immature and childish things. In the meantime, they take offense when people laugh at them but they should just GROW UP. Santa/God doesn't exist.

Re: Why do atheists think they "got it figured" out and always bash religion and spirituality?
atheists are on a journey of discovery

professing their atheism is a cry for help, most of them are simply immature Christians in denial

it's a process
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22950962

actually, atheists have "discovered " something that you more weak minded types haven't, mainly that religion is
a con, a con which makes the so called "holey men"(prteachers, popes, etc) very rich, while causing billions to waste their one life.
"Immature christian in denial?"
You are the one in denial, you are so afraid of death
that you will beleive any bullshit that any con artist
spouts in order to make yourself feel better.
Have no problem with religious types, only problem is that
in order for affirmation of their bullshit, which deep down they know is bullshit, they have to "convert" others, because if others beleive as they do, then it must be right.
If you self rightous types would just leave the unbeleiver
alone, that would be fine, but con artists (holy men)
are some of the greediest most power mad people on the planet, constantly want new converts, want to constantly
enforce "laws" forcing others to do as they want.
If you would only leave us "unbeleivers" alone, instead
of easing your insecurity which comes from basing your life on a fairy tale by getting others to beleive the same bullshit, it would be fine.
But you won't keep your nose out of other peoples business.
I don't come to church and talk about what morons church goers are to buy into a belief system that won't sgtand up to even cursory inspection, why don't you do me the same courtesy and stop using phrases like "immature" when
referring to atheists and agnostics?
I am fifty five years old, dumbass, studied religion, found it wanting. Bet you have never studied your belief with
any sort of introspection whatsoever.
So who is "immature"?
You can ignore the consequences of
your actions, but you cannot ignore
the RESULTS of the consequences of your actions

Atheists are people who want to be physical in a spiritual world, so they have to make up a set of fairy tales to substitute for a creator, but all they do is keep moving the creation event to a new location, from 'mud pools' to 'backs of crystals' to 'big bangs' to 'aliens'. Perhaps I just prefer good ole talking donkeys.

Lies in every belief system? No, there are truths in every belief system. But there is not one of them that is 100% complete. Not a single one of them can exhaust everything that can be said about the Truth.

When you discover the Truth, you become able to see it everywhere. Everyone is speaking the truth. I believe that everyone is right at their own measure.

The Truth unites all beliefs in a coherent story that makes sense from multiple angles. As long as you are in conflict with someone's else's beliefs, you have not found the truth.

that's the basis of omnitheism: to believe in everything and at the same time in nothing in particular.

Re: Why do atheists think they "got it figured" out and always bash religion and spirituality?
i was at my atheist church of science today which is tax-free incidentally, putting up the sign outside it which says 'there are no gods,so they don't save, you've just got this one life then you're dead' and the atheist pastor came down to see me
he asked if i would go round the streets of the town i live with some science tracts and preach the theory of evolution and the theory of gravity to people. so off i went, sadly i met some theists who slammed the door in my face. further on a 'christian' tried to convince me that his invisible, intangible god, who there is no evidence or proof for had 'created the universe'. next door a muslim tried to tell me that his invisible, intangible god, who there is no evidence or proof for had 'created the universe'. then a christian next door to the muslim tried to tell me that his invisible, intangible god, who there is no evidence or proof for had 'created the universe', but not the same god as the first christian, just slightly different.

i was glad to get back to my quiet atheist church of science and count the tithes from the other atheists who had been to congregation that morning.

suddenly there was thunder outside, and we were all glad to know that it was caused by hot air interracting with cold air, and not the work of a sky pixie invented by stoneage people with no concept of how the weather actually works.

"If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future.

Before him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted. He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women would languish in dungeons in darkness, filled with pain. He knew that his church would invent and use instruments of torture; that his followers would appeal to whip and fagot, to chain and rack. He saw the horizon of the future lurid with the flames of the auto-da-fê. He knew what creeds would spring like poisonous fungi from every text. He saw the ignorant sects waging war against each other. He saw thousands of men, under the orders of priests, building prisons for their fellow-men. He saw thousands of scaffolds dripping with the best and bravest blood. He saw his followers using the instruments of pain. He heard the groans—saw the faces white with agony. He heard the shrieks and sobs and cries of all the moaning, martyred multitudes. He knew that commentaries would be written on his words with swords, to be read by the light of fagots. He knew that the Inquisition would be born of the teachings attributed to him.

He saw the interpolations and falsehoods that hypocrisy would write and tell. He saw all wars that would be waged, and he knew that above these fields of death, these dungeons, these rackings, these burnings, these executions, for a thousand years would float the dripping banner of the cross.

He knew that hypocrisy would be robed and crowned—that cruelty and credulity would rule the world; knew that liberty would perish from the earth; knew that popes and kings in his name would enslave the souls and bodies of men; knew that they would persecute and destroy the discoverers, thinkers and inventors; knew that his church would extinguish reason's holy light and leave the world without a star.

He saw his disciples extinguishing the eyes of men, flaying them alive, cutting out their tongues, searching for all the nerves of pain.

He knew that in his name his followers would trade in human flesh; that cradles would be robbed and women's breasts unbabed for gold.

And yet he died with voiceless lips.

Why did he fail to speak? Why did he not tell his disciples, and through them the world: "You shall not burn, imprison and torture in my name. You shall not persecute your fellow-men."

Why did he not plainly say: "I am the Son of God," or, "I am God?" Why did he not explain the Trinity? Why did he not tell the mode of baptism that was pleasing to him? Why did he not write a creed? Why did he not break the chains of slaves? Why did he not say that the Old Testament was or was not the inspired word of God? Why did he not write the New Testament himself? Why did he leave his words to ignorance, hypocrisy and chance? Why did he not say something positive, definite and satisfactory about another world? Why did he not turn the tear-stained hope of heaven into the glad knowledge of another life? Why did he not tell us something of the rights of man, of the liberty of hand and brain?

Why did he go dumbly to his death, leaving the world to misery and to doubt?

I will tell you why. He was a man, and did not know." (Ingersoll 1894)

OR...we could think logically here and realize that there never was a Christ who was a son of God. All there really ever was was the SUN of God, the one who rose in the morning and the one who gave light to the world. That is who Christians really worship. That is why we celebrate his birthday on the pagan winter solstice when the sun stays still in the sky for three days at the lowest point on the horizon. On the third day, it begins to rise up in the sky again. BORN AGAIN, if you will. The sun came alive again. And you are all worshiping pagan deities but don't even know it.

Re: Why do atheists think they "got it figured" out and always bash religion and spirituality?

Because atheism, like all religions, is merely a belief system. One in the same in many ways.

How fucking stupid can you really be? Atheism is NOT a religion. Science is NOT a relgion. It is a subject you study in school. Atheists usually believe in evolution which is another subject studied in universities. Would you call Literature 101 a religion? How about Spanish or French? Are those subjects RELIGIONS???

Atheists don't believe in deities? How could that even remotely be considered to be a religion. Are you 12? If you told me you played football, I would call you a fucking football player. If I hated football and never played the sport, would you call me a FOOTBALL PLAYER. Saying that an atheist is practicing a religion is the same thing. Religions are for people who believe in GODS. THe stupid in your comment is beyond belief.
