Think of a hula hoop. When it's motionless just resting on one of your hips, it will fall to the ground. But start gyrating your hips (no sex jokes!) and get the hula hoop moving really fast around your hips, and it stays up (again, no sex jokes!) and doesn't fall to the ground.
