Is it true that chicken pox leaves a single indentation/scar on your body? I have a small scar on my chest and was always told as a kid it was from my case of chicken pox.... Looks like a small indentation about the size of a small mole. |

Just ask your doc for the vaccine. Problem solved.. OP, whatever you do, DO NOT get the vaccine, you can contract this from the vaccines, I know because I had chicken pox at 36 from my son right AFTER he HAD the useless vaccine! My son got it, he gave it to my daughter who was previously vaccinated against it (didn't help), and gave it to me, at 36yrs old it sucked, 5 days of flu-like symptoms, 2 weeks later the "pox" but I survived and now will have a lifelong immunity, naturally from the exposure. Just roll the dice and if you get it, enjoy, it will most likely be the last time you have it. Vaccinate now and you'll risk getting shingles in your later years. |

I was feeding my 3 month old son and could offer him no immunity as I hadn't had it as a child. As a result I caught it and so did he. My doctor said he's too young and you're too old and there I was like Spotty Muldoon. Obviously he was out to lunch. It was miserable and can develop into more serious things as you get older. |

I am NEROUS about the vaccine as well from all the stuff I have about it! Thank you everyone for your contributions and help! Now, I have something to seriously ponder! UGH!!! What to do! ~"For the total development of the human being, solitude as a means of cultivating sensitivity becomes a necessity. One has to know what it means to be alone, what it is to meditate, what it is to die; and the implications of solitude, of meditation, of death, can be known only by seeking them out. These implications cannot be taught, they must be learned." - Krishnamurti ~ |

He gets the vaccine now and he risks development of shingles (not chicken pox) later in life. Do the research. |

scorpio66 User ID: 2453057 United States 09/01/2012 05:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had the chicken pox at 16. It was AWFUL and seems true that the older you are, the worse you get them. I "tried" to get them in elementary school when everyone else had them and I was the only one in my class that didn't get them. I was so bummed about that at the time. At 16, I ended up missing 3 full weeks of school, which would have been much cooler had I not been so miserable the whole time. And yes, I have a few "pock marks" which are the indention type scars described above. It's because as the virus progresses the pox turn into these pretty significant scabby lumps and if you scratch or knock one off too soon, it takes a chunk of flesh with it leaving a pit behind. I have one on my forehead and one under my eye as well as a few over the rest of my body that aren't as noticeable. Battle scars!! Anyway, like someone else mentioned above, you may have had a very mild case of it with just a couple of marks that no one noticed when you were younger. I hope for you that that is the case anyway. I wouldn't get the vaccine either way. Hopefully, you at least have herd immunity at this point since so many people have had it now. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22985962 Your parents should have taken you to a "pox party" of little kids. But they obviously didn't. It's Shingles, all the way down! Isnt shingles what youre supposed (or possibly) to get as an adult if you've already had chicken pox? Though my mom, whos also in her 40s has never had shingles even though she got chicken pox as a kid. |
curiouser&curiouser User ID: 22780121 United States 09/01/2012 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you may have had it but been asymptomatic (i.e. without symptoms) so that effectively you suffered very mildly. This may have given you immunity but watch out you masy be at risk of shingles. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22586665 I am not a medic. This happened to me as an infant. I then got a case of shingles at the age of 7. Doctors thought it was a pretty freak incident, as most people do not get this until they are much older. |
