I ran outside but was too late to see anything - I live in a wooded area. I was surprised to see a story about it in the paper. They were just above tree-top altitude, which is illegal over a populated area. The article points out: FAA regulations do not apply to public-use aircraft, such as military or police, nor do they set a minimum altitude requirement for helicopters. Airport director Kevin Kline said the Federal Aviation Administration was aware of the operation and the flights complied with general flight rules. No other information was available. So, based on his statement, this was definitely a military operation. But what were they doing? You can't spot illegal plants at midnight… |

We've had significant problems with police/military helicopters in the past. Flying at treetop levels looking in the windows (no I'm not kidding), harassing civilians on the ground, spraying an aerosol at 200 feet above ground level. All these things and more. It's only a matter of time until these immature assholes kill or main members of the public because there is no way they could recover from serious mechanical failures at those heights. |
