A Call for PEACE! We, The People, Now Choose Peace!
Perhaps this isn't the place to call for peace, since this site seems to thrive on doom. OK, you can still have your sun doom; your earthquake doom and the potential tsunami doom; but for God's sake it's high time to stop killing each other!

Our war-mongering governments will continue to choose one war after another to make the war machine filthy rich. The corporations who now control the governments are becoming unimaginably rich as the war machine hype takes over.

They will continue this until we, the people say ENOUGH! NO MORE! Think about how truly barbaric this alleged solution is! We sent our fine young men and women to foreign countries to kill their citizens, and perhaps die themselves. How stupid is that!??!

Even if it worked it wouldn't be a good solution, but it doesn't!! Just look at Iraq and Afghanistan. Are they better off with our "help"? Do they really want us there? For that matter do our troops really want to be there? I don't think so.

Margaret Meade once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

That "small group of thoughtful, committed citizens" could be us! Why not? But most people think they have no control over what happens in their world. Well let me tell you... You DO have control! You are much more powerful than you have ever imagined. TPTB would like you to believe you have no power, because then they can go on with their agenda and not receive any conflict from you.

OK, so here are a few things you CAN do.

1) Visualize peace!
Yes I know that sounds like an old worn out cliche, but it works! Visualize the leaders of Iran, Israel, and the U.S. coming to a peaceful resolution. And if it looks like peace negotiations are in jeopardy, simply visualize the soldiers laying down their weapons and saying "NO!"

And if you can get other people to join in your visualizations it will be many times more powerful! If you can't get anyone interested, just ask your spiritual guides and the angels of light to join you and you can still experience this compounding effect.

2) Create Peace in your own life!
This has a much more powerful effect than most people could even dream of. Everything in your world matters and it affects every other experience. Creating peace and resolving conflict in your own life is extremely powerful, and it will ripple out and affect everything else. It gives you a feeling of empowerment, because it's something you can control!

With clear focus and a little practice you can get to a state where conflict seems petty and uninteresting. It just doesn't appeal to you anymore. When someone starts raising their voice at you, you calmly get up and leave the room until you can discuss their concerns with a clear calm state of mind. You won't believe how this empowers you!

3) Talk to your representatives!
It takes very little time and energy to shoot off an email to your senators and congressmen and women. Remember, they work for YOU!

Unfortunately the level of impact you will have, is directly proportional to the amount of time and energy you invest in it, like most other things. So make a phone call, or write them a letter in your own handwriting. This will be much more impactful.

Better yet; find their schedule, and go where they are and get in their face. Tell them how you feel. (In a nice way, of course.) Remind them that they work for YOU!!

Christians!

There are a large number of Christians in the U.S. and here on GLP, so help me understand this. What part of "Thou shalt not kill!" do you feel does not apply? This is an honest and serious question. I would really like to know how you justify all this killing.

Obviously a lot of Christians are okay with war, because of the sheer number of Christians living in the U.S. If all these Christians actively opposed war we wouldn't have war. So why don't you? I'm not being facetious; I'd really like to know.

Christianity was infiltrated by zionist agents, and the old Christian ideas were replaced with new pro-zionist dogma. Christians of old always wanted to "save jewish people" by converting them to Christ. The Zio-Christians of today want to help making non-converted jewish people who loathe everything the old Christianity stood for the lords of the Earth instead. They somehow think this will make their Jesus happy.

It's really just a matter of knowing your history. Christians only need to research what Christianity used to be like 100 years ago or so. Then they could study exactly when and how the religion changed, and who did the changing.

Re: A Call for PEACE! We, The People, Now Choose Peace!
The history of legislation to create a Department of Peace

The peace movement in the United States has a proposed legislative history that dates to the first years of the republic:

1793: Dr. Benjamin Rush, Founding Father (signer of the Declaration of Independence), wrote an essay titled "A plan of a Peace-Office for the United States".[1] Dr. Rush called for equal footing with the Department of War and pointed out the effect of doing so for the welfare of the United States in promoting and preserving perpetual peace in our country. First published in a 1793 almanac that Benjamin Banneker authored,[2] the plan stated:

1. Let a Secretary of Peace be appointed to preside in this office; . . . let him be a genuine republican and a sincere Christian. . . .

2. Let a power be given to the Secretary to establish and maintain free schools in every city, village and township in the United States; . . . Let the youth of our country be instructed in reading, writing, and arithmetic, and in the doctrines of a religion of some kind; the Christian religion should be preferred to all others; for it belongs to this religion exclusively to teach us not only to cultivate peace with all men, but to forgive—nay more, to love our very enemies. . . .

3. Let every family be furnished at public expense, by the Secretary of this office, with an American edition of the Bible. . . .

4. Let the following sentence be inscribed in letters of gold over the door of every home in the United States: The Son of Man Came into the World, Not To Destroy Men's Lives, But To Save Them.

5. To inspire a veneration for human life, and an horror at the shedding of human blood, let all those laws be repealed which authorize juries, judges, sheriffs, or hangmen to assume the resentments of individuals, and to commit murder in cold blood in any case whatever. . . .

6. To subdue that passion for war . . . militia laws should everywhere be repealed, and military dresses and military titles should be laid aside. . . .

1925: Carrie Chapman Catt, founder of the League of Women Voters, at the Cause and Cure for War Conference, publicly suggested a cabinet-level Department of Peace and secretary of peace be established.[3]
1926/1927: Kirby Page, author of A National Peace Department, wrote, published and distributed the first proposal for a cabinet-level Department of Peace and secretary of peace.[4]
1935: Senator Matthew M. Neely (D-West Virginia) wrote and introduced the first bill calling for the creation of a United States Department of Peace. Reintroduced in 1937 and 1939.
1943: Senator Alexander Wiley (R-Wisconsin) spoke on the Senate floor calling for the United States of America to become the first government in the world to have a secretary of peace.
1945: Representative Louis Ludlow (D-Indiana) re-introduced a bill to create a United States Department of Peace.
1946: Senator Jennings Randolph (D-West Virginia) re-introduced a bill to create a United States Department of Peace.
1947: Representative Everett Dirksen (R-Illinois) introduced a bill for “A Peace Division in the State Department”.
1955 to 1968: Eighty-five Senate and House of Representative bills were introduced calling for a United States Department of Peace.[5]
1969: Senator Vance Hartke (D-Indiana) and Representative Seymour Halpern (R-New York) re-introduced bills to create a U.S. Department of Peace in the House of Representatives and the Senate. The 14 Senate cosponsors of S. 953, "The Peace Act", included Birch Bayh (D-IN), Robert Byrd (D-WV), Alan Cranston (D-CA), Daniel Inouye (D-HI) and Edmund Muskie (D-ME). The 67 House cosponsors included Ed Koch of New York, Donald Fraser of Minnesota, and Abner Mikva of Illinois, as well as Republican Pete McCloskey of California.
1979: Senator Spark Matsunaga (D-Hawaii) re-introduced a bill to create a U.S. Department of Peace.
2001: Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) re-introduced a bill to create a U.S. Department of Peace. This bill has since been introduced in each session of Congress from 2001 to 2009. It was re-introduced as H.R. 808 on February 3, 2009 and is currently supported by 72 cosponsors. In July 2008, the first Republican cosponsor, Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) signed on.
2005: Senator Mark Dayton (D-Minnesota) introduced legislation in the Senate to create a cabinet-level department of peace a week after Dennis Kucinich introduced a similar bill in the House.

Yes, indeed, great point! That's why this thread is focused on creating PEACE! Notice how it's mentioned in the title TWICE!

I think that was the biggest problem with the OWS or 'Occupy'
movement. They were quite clear about what they DIDN'T like, but they weren't focused on any real solutions. So the only "solutions" that got any airtime was the "gimme-more-free-stuff!" fringe group which was probably their ultimate downfall.

There are a large number of Christians in the U.S. and here on GLP, so help me understand this. What part of "Thou shalt not kill!" do you feel does not apply? This is an honest and serious question. I would really like to know how you justify all this killing.

I respect the OP's sincere question, unlike this Swede who's making stuff up because of something they read by someone they don't know...notice he starts by saying he's not a Christian or an American, but somehow he's an authority on the subject...? Anyways, OP, to answer your question about Christians being ok with war. I personally absolutely oppose war. I believe "thou shall not kill" means exactly that. I know a lot of Christians who think just as I do about war, but the ones you usually hear about are the ones that are in politics being portrayed as war-mongers who don't care if people die, or else, it's someone you know in your family or a friend who spews stuff they heard someone else say on TV or at church, making it out to be some sort of absolute truth. I think this is a direct result of Christians being ordinary people (but more than likely having a self-righteous view of themselves). People are flawed, just as I am, but the moment someone says they're a Christian, they get clumped together with this distorted view of all Christians. This issue of peace is not something that I think should be sought after in a group, as your Meade quote alludes to, rather it's something that starts within. I'm going to stop right here so as to not get all preachy on you, but if you'd like I can try to fill you in on what I believe to be the answer to this peace issue, from a not-so-stereotypical Christian perspective.

OK, GLP, the ball's in your court! List some more peace-creating ideas and I'll add them to the opening post. And then DO IT!!
