Re: TOILET PAPER AND YOU PREPPERS
dried stuff even old and expired would seem like a banquet when you are starving

also, if you have a septic system never put tp in it
trash can, and then burn the tissues outside

tp, especially colored does not decompose well in the tank

(trust me, septic sucker guy for 5 years)

also, for women, the real problem will be personal protection at the time of the month

hence the bibles clean, unclean stuff

read about that

HOW MANY OF YOU DO THIS OR PLAN ON IT ?
If we are planning for a long term event, we need to face the scary fact that toilet paper is not a renewable resource and will eventually run out. I know some people who have a panic attack at the thought of that. What are our options?

CLOTH

Following use, I fold the used cloth in half and place it in a large plastic container of water with a little laundry soap and Oxiclean and cover with a lid. There is no odor and nothing gross about draining most of the water off of them and just dumping the cloths into the washer. I wash them with homemade laundry detergent and bleach. They come out perfectly clean and white.

I have gone from using one roll of toilet paper a week to one roll a month.

I still think it's gross wiping with dry paper.

Ever try to clean a plate with dry paper? It just smears the shit all over.

oNCE the SHTF happens you wont be able to get much food to eat, hence you wont need to poop that many times, you might not need toilet pepper as result, but if you do you can use your cat to wipe your fat ass, grass and big trees loafs will do the job easily

There were cloth diapers before pampers and people have not always had toilet paper.

They had to wipe somehow. Have heard of people taking Sears catalogs and corn cobs to the outhouse.

The boxed foods definably go bad.Things like hamburger helper etc taste horrible shortly after the date is passed.Mixes like cake mix, brownies, etc also taste really bad.I just threw away about 15 boxes of the home style meals by betty crocker and banquet where everything is in the box.Cooked a couple last week and they were rancid tasting. One year past date.Anything with flour especially will go rancid soon after the date. Many things it doesnt really matter like most can foods. Also threw away a case of can fruit because it had turned to mush.Had that less than two years and date was only out by about 6 months.L dont buy dried beans unless I plan to eat them soon. After a long time they get very hard and not easy to cook.Even after being cooked they dont soften nor taste good and difficult to eat.
Unless you have a fast turn around time as far as using and rotating many are going to find a lot of their stored food is no good.I keep only about 3 months worth stored now because I have had to toss so much.

Even need to rotate toilet paper because it will start falling apart after a couple of years. The softer kinds will turn powdery and lots of lint and dont hold together well after a period of time.

I agree. It's ok to have boxed food, but I poke a small hole in the bag to release any air that may be present, then vacuum pack it and put it back in the box.

I do the same with beef jerky that is sold in bags. Even though it has an O2 absorber in it, there is still air in the bag. Just poke a hole in it, release the air and then vacuum pack it. I think it will last even longer this way.

cool2

Please don't tell me you are MORAN and believe that expiration dates are the last date you should consume foods.

Specially with dry goods when are people going to learn that expiration dates are nothing but
BEST BUY DATES/FRESHEST BY DATES you can eat dry goods well beyond those dates as long as they are kept dry, sealed and nothing is growing out of it
Wake up MoRAN do some poking around online and learn all about the conspiracy that exp dates are.

On another note Preppers that store foods that they have never cooked in their life crack me up. For example Everyone talks about storing beans yet they have never cooked beans in their life's, beans are an excellent survival food but they take long to cook you need to have a pressure cooker otherwise you will end up boiling them forever an in a SHTF situation that means fuel and time that you might now have so is important to learn how to cook them and soak the beans the night before to speed up the cooking time and reduce fuel consumption

If you incorporate all your prep food into your daily diet than expiration dates should not be of concern because you keep keep your supplies in rotation.

ouch corn cobs really?
 Quoting: ttowngirl

Yes really. However they didn't just grab a corncob fro the cor crib. The cobs were boiled first (long time boiling) in some cases a hammer was taken to them - a wooden mallet. Not so much as to crush them, but to soften up the surface fibers.
 Quoting: Bowyn Aerrow

My mother told me along time ago that she used to use corn cobs when visiting her grandpa in Kentucky. He taught her to soften them by rubbing them on a hard surface like a post or even rub them together.

And everything on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean. Everything also on which she sits shall be unclean. And whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening.

 Quoting: ttowngirl

How about using your body to produce less paper-hungry excretory products ?

Eat clean. No meat, or very little. Don't eat starches without chewing very well and profoundly, so you will get the benefit of digestion and not your intestinal bacteria (we are feeding our intestinal bacteria as much as we do ourselves). Those make up a large part of our body waste.

We should actually be able to produce almost dry pellets, like goats or sheep - or almost. But in modern society this is practically impossible. You have to discipline yourself to an extent which is unheard of. But you will be able to do with just one piece of toilet paper a day, if need be.

Exactly !
Most industrial food is far, far from optimal for human diet. Basically, only the most simple and basic food products can be trusted. I am thinking for example of 1 kg packages of grossly milled wheat flour which you can buy here in Belgium but which is imported by immigrants such as Pakistani and Hindus. It is not white but yellowish and, perforce, much richer in vital ingredients than white flour. Stock up on THAT rather than on those industrial products you are used to.

But it goes without saying that the fact it is produced somewhere in Asia doesn't mean the factory uses better or more hygienic productions methods, or that the wheat used has been cultivated in the best ways. You've got to think of all of this as well, not just of what will keep the longest or what is most tasty.

This is somewhat off-topic, but it says on their homepage "A prepper is an individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of any change in normal circumstances or lifestyle without significant reliance on other persons (i.e., being self-reliant), or without substantial assistance from outside resources (govt., etc. ..."

I would rather define a prepper as someone who is not so much purely self-reliant (although that too, of course) but more as someone who learns to rely as little as possible on the government and the usual commodities it provides, such as hospitals, roads, power, etc.

Soaking the beans overnight will reduce their cooking time. Another trick is using a small piece of Kombu (sort of seaweed, particularly valued in Japanese cuisine) which is reputed to help the beans get soft quicker (little macrobiotic trick).

Seaweed BTW is very valuable for incorporating in your diet. The Japanese know all about it.

Look up kombu, wakame, hiziki, nori in particular. Dried seaweed is very easy to store and weighs very little.
