Very interesting suppositions Netherlands, when I watch the video of the cavities at the ends of filaments propelling away I can't shake the possibility of one or more of the options you give. I don't know if it shows up in successive frames because I don't know how to advance the frames on soho. I know some folks who do and I will check with them.

Problem is, if you enlarge the pic, you can see a couple of stars within that circle, as if the circle in question is some kind of gaseous bubble that came out with the last outburst which can be seen in the gif.

Just being realistic.
