Are there any intuitive readers on board?...I need some help/guidance, please
For the THIRD time this year I've gotten a job and then have been called right before starting to tell me that the training/job has been cancelled. I am applying to everything I can find, but nothing. Heck, I've replied to two jobs in the last hour since finding out the job I was supposed to start training for today was cancelled.

If you are a good intuitive reader and can offer any insight into what is going on, I would be most grateful...is it just me? Is it just the economy?

And, please, no mean remarks. I am at my wits end, and very upset right now.

Is there something in your background that could be causing this? Most companies do background checks now.

No. No criminal record. I've passed background checks before. I can also pass a drug test, no problem.

I feel for you OP. Its hard to say. I have never had a problem getting a job my whole life , im 42. Only once , have I went to an interview and not walked away with the job.

I've been unemployed now for a little over 2 years. I put in tons of apps , and follow up on them. I have had one call in the last 2 years. The only thing I have now that I can think of I didn't back then are social websites. I post allot of stuff about bad police ,and corruption , etc. Im starting to think it is my problem.

Im thinking of testing my theory by starting to spew pro obama crap on my facebook and see if the phone starts ringing of the wall.

Good luck.

OP, I'm getting someone at one of you old jobs is unfairly saying something negative about you, not your work... your personality.

I feel you need a job doing anything or volunter work to get good current personal recommendations. This will counter the gossip.

I don't post on Facebook or anywhere else except GLP, and at that I only post about my energy work and the info I have to offer about such.

When I was younger (53 now), before the economy went south, I was like you, I always walked away with the job.

I don't know how this would be possible. I've left all my jobs on good standing. There's no reason why my references should even covertly be bad mouthing me.

And I am applying for jobs doing anything.

Mid October? I will by long be homeless and in a shelter or on the street by then.

Thanks for helping, lovey, but I've just about tapped out my store of hope...but I'll try my best to keep my chin up. It's just right now so hard.

Jobs at grocery stores, convience stores, fast food places?

I look at craigslist, indeed, snagajob, etc. ...they can't all possibly be what you're posting about.

The jobs I do get are in call centers, but they're not panning out like I said in my first post.

This is f'n insane...gaah

Are you obese or otherwise "different" looking?

I know people who have not gotten jobs because they were basically too fat or considered ugly.

Oh, ffs, no. I'm average looking, and only about 10 lbs. overweight. This has nothing to do with the issue.

But, yeah, I know how this is a problem. I wrote a research paper in college about discrimination of less than attractive people...the prof actually read it out loud to the class.

Terrible thing, this. It happens in schools, in the Justice system, in social services, etc..

Just thought I'd let you kind people know I just got a call about a job I'm going to apply and interview for. Only part time and $8 an hour, but I don't care. I'm on it like white on rice.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.

Harhar, you shoulda seen me tearing my room apart looking for my one bra...lolsign. I needed that, to laugh at myself for a minute.

Keep some good thoughts for me, okay? hf

PS--And thanks for the good karma. That's sweet.

Okay, lol, this is the singular most raggedy call center I've ever seen, but I got the job and start tomorrow. At least it's something until I can find something better. Pfht, never let it be said that I wouldn't do anything to have an income.

Gawd, I intermittently cried and laughed the whole way home. Cried because it's just that bad, and laughed because...well, because I had to. I really don't like being sad and down. It gives me a roaring headache, like the one I have right now.

I don't know, maybe the work won't be so awful, even if the office is. It's calling people and offering free home security systems if they allow the company to put a sign in their yard.

$8 an hour with $100 bonuses per each sign up. Interestingly enough, I saw six people turn over calls to closers while there. The only thing is it's a 1099 job. I've never been paid this way and will have to learn about managing the taxes at tax time, but that shouldn't be hard to do. I know I'll have to set some money aside if I make more than the allotted amount, but I am disciplined enough to do that.

It's hard though, after being an award winning cook and having been an addictions counselor, this is pitiful.

Ah, well, no where to go from here but up...right?

grinning

As far as I know you can't technically be a 1099 employee while working at only one job for one employer. True, they can pay you that way, but when it comes time to collect unemployment they have no legs to stand on.

My personal recommendation would be the trades. Do you live in an area with apprenticeships and union jobs? They will take you and you will have to perform. My assumption is you are female, correct?
I wait, I watch and I hope, but my hands are near to my blades.

That's fantastic news about getting a job in the end. You obviously interview well seeing as how you keep getting the jobs.

I reckon it's probably just been a string of coincidental bad luck. I'd say you're intelligent and maybe people have been worried you're over qualified and will just use the job as a stepping stone and not hang around for long. They may have had someone younger and less qualified who'd originally said no to the offer but had then changed their mind so you were shunted off out of the picture. Maybe? Yeah, I know: quite the stretch there :)

If this job doesn't work out, maybe you could try cooking work again? You must be good at it. Anyway, good luck and I really hope it works out!!
