Why no threads about ammo?

(CNN) - Praise the Internet and pass the ammunition: the blogosphere is roiling with conspiracy theories over a Social Security Administration shopping list for 174,000 hollow-point bullets.

Depending on whom you believe, police who protect Social Security Administration officers are either preparing for impending financial doom by purchasing lethal ammo to put down rioting citizens, or they're just making a standard purchase of ammunition for a federal police agency.

It all began last month when the agency, which is primarily responsible for distributing benefits to the disabled and retired people, posted an announcement seeking bids for 174,000 hollow-point bullets.

"Social Security welfare is estimated to keep around 40 per cent of senior citizens out of poverty. Should the tap run dry in the aftermath of an economic collapse which the Federal Reserve has already told top banks to prepare for, domestic disorder could ensue if people are refused their benefits," it said in a post.

Each bullet potentially "represents a dead American," wrote retired Maj. Gen. Jerry Curry, an Army vet.

My question is what did they pay for it, and from whom did they buy it?

My understanding is from Federal

When the government has to really begin worrying is when people start buying arrows.

Arrows are for sure rebuildable.

And they go through body armor.

Only an idiot thinks this is a lot of ammo...

I know it's not a lot....if you figure 348 people with 500 rounds...I'm asking who paid for it, and where did it come from, and why are they telling us?

The question to be asked is, "Are they trying to keep others from buying it?" and then "Why?"

A little under 600 rounds per 295 Inspector General officers charged with security of the SS offices in the US is a not a lot of ammo. I would expect each of them to use at least that many rounds a year for practice and qualifying. Practice and qualify with what you're going to shoot, if you can afford it. The Feds can afford it, it's not their money. Take any law enforcement agency, just 500 rounds and multiply that by number of personnel, those purchasing numbers aren't quite so large. They've been making purchases like this for years and will continue to do so as long as budgets allow. People are nitpicking the numbers this year because they think something's going to happen in December.
Oh, and don't worry about SS, it'll be around for quite a few more years, trust me.

We were discussing it on here long before it showed up on Yahoo or MSN... If you search there are threads on it already with a lot of comments.

Yes, I know. The comments on the other websites are hilarious. I just was asking a few different questions, and when I copied two of the stories I wasn't allowed to post them. I guess due to a certain persons name, and I wasn't aware of that.
