There is alot of resentment for the laws that undermined the comfortable status quo of ordinary anglos in Quebec. At 50, he and his friends probably had alot of adjustments to make for which they never forgot or forgave. He is not alone, though his generation is dwindling and, hopefully, the source for that kind of reaction is...

Its one thing to talk shit about quebecers, its another to try to assassinate their separatist prime minister, a few minutes after the election, in their own backyard. Its a minority government meaning that they could go back in election soon. With this event to flare up tensions, this could turn ugly fast and Canada could wake up missing a big chunk of land sooner than they thought. This land doesn't belong to the Federal Govertment (crown corporation) it belongs to the Queen.
