The problem is that the further we seem to get from those times and the founding principles of this country, the deeper we seem to find ourselves circling the toilet bowl. This country is screwed if it continues on its current path, and its one the Democratic party seems all too willing to follow. The GOP isn't much better, but at least they seem to recognize that in principle, there is a different and better way, even if, in practice, they rarely choose it.
