reformat pc question
hello i had bought a netbook with windows 7 and made a backup on an external hard drive and i was wondering. Am I able to reformat my desktop pc with the backup of my netbook windows 7 that is on my external harddrive?

pretty sure this isn't going to work.

once windows is registered (pre-registered on a store bought computer) it is normally linked through the mac address.

your desktop and netbook will not have the same mac address.

Yes, if you mirrored the files onto an external hard drive, you should be able to tell the bios to use the external hard drive to boot up. Then copy the whole hard drive back onto the reformatted drive of your netbook.

Not possible because you cannot boot from an external drive.
However, most newer computers have built in factory restore images.
Google your model and brand with reset to factory image.
It should tell you to hit f12 or something like that upon restart to restore to factory image.

Go get a free piece of software and you can make an exact copy of your hard drive, which you would be able to boot with.

Of course you can boot with an external drive, if you set it up in the BIOS. It gives you the option to boot from drive C, D, E, USB, CD, and so on.

You can boot from any media, as long as you set it up that way.
