You don't need to imagine, they already have M 8.0 and catastrophic eartquekes in history let God help them ..

The 1556 Shaanxi earthquake or Jiajing earthquake was a catastrophic earthquake and is also the deadliest earthquake on record, killing approximately 830,000 people.[1] It occurred on the morning of 23 January 1556 in Shaanxi, during the Ming Dynasty. More than 97 counties in the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and Anhui were affected.[2] An 840-kilometre (520 mi)-wide area was destroyed,[3] and in some counties 60% of the population was killed.[4] Most of the population in the area at the time lived in yaodongs, artificial caves in loess cliffs, many of which collapsed with catastrophic loss of life.

Re: Earthquakes kill at least 81 in southwest China 800 injured and 750,000 people affected
- We are sad to report that the death toll increased further to 80 people

- The new number of fatalities makes today’s earthquake the second deadliest in 2012. Coincidence or not, both these earthquakes were double earthquakes.

Update 16:34 UTC
- More than 1000 military personnel from the Chengdu Military region have been sent to the earthquake area
- Especially the farming community is extremely hard hit by the earthquake
- The Red Cross has started a donation campaign to support the relief efforts
- The city of Chongqing (+30 million inhabitants) has offered to help. Chongqing is approx. 300 km from the epicenter.
- most of the damage has been caused by landslides and not by direct shaking (limited magnitude)
- As the night has fallen in the disaster area, we do not expect to receive as many details as during daylight. The death toll still stands at 64 and we truly hope that it will stop here
- Below one of the latest TV coverages with new footage of the earthquake
