To truly know yourself
What practical ways do you go about knowing your true self.
I want to know myself in order to act accordingly. Any help would be great.

step 1.. stop looking outside.. look inside and experience that which is within over and over until you start realizing..

I guess I'm being needy or whatever, but I've gone through a lot of change in my life lately and ive experienced life changing events and I'm seeking some sort of guidance. I feel the most important thing is to know yourself in order to know others.. But how.

What constitutes a genuine desire? I recently experienced complete ego loss and I've been in a confused state yearning to know my self truly and wholy. I want to become like a rock, a foundation for people to rely on... But I new a strong sense of self again.

To truly know yourself you must be willing to face that which is within you and that is not of yourself.

You must be willing to understand the bias system that causes you to fail to know what is real from what you really want to know as truth.

Everyone i assume has noted at one time another person outside themselves "missing the point". It was clear that the other person couldn't grasp the understanding that seemed so simple to you. That's because of their self serving bias system.

YOU ALL have a self serving bias system. Realize that person missing the point is YOU.

What are you missing because you're bias and will not let yourself know?

That is how you truly get to know yourself.

I do!

For me and many friends, it happens when you hit forty. How old are you? Younger I think. But suddenly you just KNOW who you are, you don't have to figure it out. What you like, what you don't like, what you are passionate about. And your confidence just kicks in!

Don't worry, you'll be fine. But take care of yourself in the meantime, exercise and eat right. :)

Re: To truly know yourself
I'm only 19 and I just moved out of my house into a completely new environment. It's been the beginning of a new cycle and I feel like I'm in a funk. I feel like in social situations I lack the ability to show off my true self and I feel it's because I'm missing who I truly am. Coming in to college I felt like I had a strong sense of myself but it almost seemed to get eroded due to my inability to exercise my desires. This world is strange and conflicting desires have really thrown me for a loop. If who you are come from within how do you block what comes from without. How do you be you despite your external influences. I'm really trying to figure out life here, and I'm being very open with all of you. So please I respect your input.

i suggest to be sober because i believe alcohol makes you act different and think different it controls you, and marijuana makes you think different and in some cases act different,,i also find these something to get away from something like a problem or boredom im not against people who drink or smoke marijuana, i smoked marijuana for 5 years and i have experienced the worst times of my life because of my alcoholic father , what i have learned in life by viewing it, the best way for you/ your soul to live is sober you may dislike it because most people think different of you if you dont drink, especially when your in high school it difficult to fit it with people that drink by the way they act and talk, its all about ignoring it , getting past it, and finding the right crowd to be with and you will succeed ..

I feel like you are right. I truly need to find the right group of people that are walking the same path and encourage positive movement. That way stayin myself would be easier.. I just feel lost an overwhelmed in my new area. I feel sorta stuck in a group of friends that I've just settled with. I know I should have better relations.. I just have trouble projecting the self that is the best me possible. I want to bring the best me to consciousness and I feel like the time is now to change.

Re: To truly know yourself
you are your imagination, thoughts, ideas and you are whoever you choose to be

reflect on what you want from life
think about what you dont want from life
define what life means to you

once you DEFINE yourself thats who you shall be
and no one can contradict that

knowing yourself is defining yourself

you are who you believe you are
thats the beauty of life
you give meaning to life
your the creator and the participator of creation

your the rockstar, and your the fan
the creator and those you live within creation are from the same mind...they are one and the same

you create reality and exist in it at the same time
your perspective and definitions are what make you known to yourself

hope it helps

Drop your ego and learn to live life from the heart first and foremost. Nothing else will truly matter. hf

Yes, the things that others think, say, or do will sometimes hurt you— until they do
not anymore. What will get you from here to there most quickly is total honesty—
being willing to assert, acknowledge, and declare exactly how you feel about a thing.
Say your truth—kindly, but fully and completely. Live your truth, gently, but totally

You need to know your heart to know yourself. Sync your consciousness with the heart to open the door to greater understanding.

I think these drugs have there place and time and are not all bad.

Booze can help, and weed can help, just as much as they can hinder. Its six and two threes - however with both drugs you do run the risk of becoming dependant on them - either to avoid bordem or anxiety - or to avoid whatever.

Not really that good for getting to know yourself if this becomes the case..

However i think the more time spent sober than under the influence of 'hangover' of either is important if you want to get to know yourself better.

Being under the influence of anything all the time just means you only get to know what yourself is like under the influence.

Maybe life is the journey of getting to know yourself - so maybe don't be in such a hurry and just kick back and enjoy the ride.

I have noticed (particlarly in women) that they know themselves, or rather accept themselves, much better once they are in their thirties.

This is not a hard and fast rule - just something i have noticed.
