you'd need to have
a) money to start a business
b) skills in high demand in Canada
or
c) family to sponsor you

i'm guessing b) is your best bet -- what do you do?

you can't just "come and live here" -- not legally
you need a work permit or to be approved as an immigrant

if it's possible, getting into a work exchange program and impressing the hell out of your employers might work to get your foot in the door. i got an employee of mine in those circumstances a temporary work visa which led to a permanent one.

op, you could just come to canada visiti and dont leave, just get a job woofing (worldwide opportunities on organic farms) 100's of opportunities to woof in bc/alberta , free shelter and free organic food for 4 hours work a day. just keep moving around woofing from place to place work hard, learn skills, meet cool down to earth people, and eventually sooner then later if you really are a good hard working guy, someone will offer you a paid job, probably under the table, farms, ranches, gardens

Re: 24 year old man wanting to move and get a job in canada
FACT THAT FEW KNOW....

There are actually TWO Immigration systems in Canada.

One is Federal which requires money, qualifications, sponsor, etc..

The other, little known one is the one that I came through...the QUEBEC IMMIGRATION SYSTEM.

In the Quebec Immigration System, 69% of the points is on how well you speak French. Just 3% are for English.

What happens is this, that you apply tehen they book for you to go for an interview in a few weeks time when one of their dudes comes to the Canadian Embassy for a day or two every few months. The trick is this... Quebec wants peopel who REALLY WANT to come to Quebec, so what you need to do is this...pre-empt the visit and ask o go o he Quebec Diplomaic mission, which will probably be he one in Brussels. To beat the interview, you need to know how to discuss your job, employment, schooling and why you want to come to Quebec in French. Forget the rest. Even though my French was poor, I was listed as "Unilingual French" as the interviewer really wanted people so keen to come to Quebec and start their own business like me.

If you are selected by Quebec, the Federal can ONLY refuse you on the grounds of criminal record or health issues.

By the way, the two interview styles are totally different.

The Federal has poeple behind a bullet-prrof windows who treat you like shit whilst the Quebec folk, saunter out, offer you a cup of coffee and sit down in a down-at-heel sofa.

if you're talking why europeans and australians are all over and not americans, it's because we don't have a reciprocal temporary work program with them like we do with the euros/australians, etc. and that's because they don't want one. don't know what your problem with philipinos is, but i imagine it's a lot easier to recruit philipinos for menial labour than it is americans. and they're a better bet, because you know thtey won't be able to change their minds and go back home very easily,

According to what I read, their looking for certain skills and go by a point system. Things may have changed but you had to have $10,000 Canadian dollars in the bank. Application fee was $400 and landing fee was $1,000.

google immigration canada and see how you can apply for temporary employment. there really is a lot of work for welders here, especially in northern alberta. if there's some special certification for pipeline work you can pursue while you're waiting (and you will be), do that.

for immigration. i don't think you have to have $10,000 for a temp work visa. i'd go about it that way -- once you're in canada and employed it's easier (though to become a permanent resident you will have to leave and return at some point. but since you probably want to visit family anyway, that shouldn't be a big deal.

my mothers family was from Cheticamp, Cape Breton

Nevertheless, as someone born in the US, who moved to Canada, I was treated badly, and couldn't figure out why

then someone who I didn't even know, told me all the things the people I thought were friends were saying about me, behind my back

mostly, attacking me for being american

thats when I realized, Canadians can be nice to your face, assholes behind your back, and YES, they are anti american

I got permanent residency based on my educastion (masters) and skill set, and I ended up moving back to the US, where there are many more high paying jobs in my field

turns out, in Canada, the jobs were "unlisted", and I would have to work through the "hidden" job market where 80% of the jobs are listed
