Wow this feral cat fixing business is throwing me for a loop.... What's going on with all these cats? Are you trapping them? Do they live on your property???
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

It all started last year when I fed 1 starving feral cat. It brought its feral friends and it had kittens and some others had kittens. I wanted to get them fixed last year when I only had 4 but my mom wouldnt let me. My mistake was even mentioning it to her. I should have just gone and done it last year.

After 2 feral kittens got ran over, it took me into a state of depression and I just said fuck it... Im going to get these cats fixed no matter what the cost is.

I built a cat drop trap and my mom really yelled and went nuts and started chewing my ass verbally... Thats when I knew I had to do it under her radar and from now on, Im not even going to tell her my plans or anything. Im just going to do it. Its not like Im partying or going out everyday coming home late. Get this, I havent hung out with anyone in 2-3 years...

Relax! There are people in a much worse situation! I am 33 and I am out of job for something less than 2 years, I cannot find a new one even though I am skilled and I have working experience and since my savings have become thin air, I'll have to move to my folks if I don't find a job within this month...

lol why blame your parents

what is the wort they can do, whine at your? give you manipulative suggestions? make sarky comments? why are you afraid of these things?

when you find out the answer to that question you will be stronger.

by the way, word of advice. those happy "successful" people with their own houses and corporate jobs are so stressed they cannot fall asleep at night and feel trapped in their jobs.

your current boss is your mother, that is not a bad deal at all

It doesnt have to be that way. If you have hope and dreams it can take you places if you just step your foot forward one day at a time to pursue it.

Start with what you love doing. How do you know what you love doing? What do you spend most of your time doing? Im pursuing my dreams, its been a year... Im passed the planning stages and working on the creation stage. Its only a few weeks until I launch my project and find out if its a success. I knew working a 9-5 wasnt for me because everytime I landed a job some were great jobs that could have been a career... I notice that I would get extremely depressed. What do you love doing?

Re: 28 yrs and I still live at home with my parents... Unemployed for 2 yrs.
There are a LOT of kids in your shape. Partly it's the economy. My daughter had her Masters and couldn't get a decent job. It was economically better for all of us if she went ahead and did her PhD work now vs later as she'd originally planned. At least with her Doctorate she can open her own practice, run a psych ward, etc. Many more doors open for her once she's got that all important PhD after her name. It's costing us about $20k for tuition and another six or eight grand a year for her personal expenses - gas, clothing, etc. Thank heaven I put her college funds in Apple stock when I was an Apple Employee back in the 1980's and she was a newborn. The twenty thousand I put up for her, buying at employee levels, plus my stock options and grants that most Apple Execs had back then added up to enough to make us able to live comfortably thru our retirement and educate the kid easily enough.

Once she has the PhD, if she still doesn't find a job in her field, then she'll have to regroup and go in another related but different direction I suppose. The days of getting out of school with a new MA (or MS in her case) and getting a job that paid in thousands some multiple of your age are nearly over! One large hospital/psych ward offered her a starting salary of $34,000 plus benefits with her Masters. At that rate, it's hardly worth going to work. But then she doesn't have to work either. If she were a bit more desperate perhaps she'd compromise. Right now however, getting that doctorate under her belt seems to be the best course.

If you are just sitting on your ass, then do something - like go back to school - that may help you build a future. Your parents, no matter how awful - will not be there forever. You will find yourself with the house, the cost of their final expenses, etc., at some time in the future. Be prepared and start investing your time in something more beneficial to you than taking feral cats to be neutered. That is a great act of a good citizen and a kindness to the poor animals. But you can do so much more. You've got a good heart - that's obvious from the cat story. So think about using it and the brain you have been given.

Life seems to stretch out endlessly in front of us all at 28. Suddenly you're 35 and then in 15 more years you'll be 50 and wondering where in hell the time went! Don't waste the life you've been given. Build it into the life you want or at least have some fun trying!

God bless... you can do this. I'm sure of it. The cats alone are silent testimony to your tenacity and kindness.

Re: 28 yrs and I still live at home with my parents... Unemployed for 2 yrs.
I'm not in the business of judging people but I just think my own pride would never let me live that way. If it makes you happy, fine. But this whole way of life is totally alien to me. I moved out from my parents house at age 15 if you can believe that although I went back there a lot and depended on them to some extent until I was 21 or so. I got married at 23 and now I'm 41 and I've never lived with anyone else in all those years.

I can't imagine what it's like to live the way you do. I am not rich and Ive spent most of my time just scraping by at pretty menial jobs but I take a certain amount of pride in twh fact that ive always been able to put a roof over my head and my wife's head. We live very minimalist lives, not many possessions, spend a lot of time reading. One thing is we never had kids. Reading this thread I'm fucking glad, who wants leeches who stay with you into their late 20s?

In a way I have sympathy for you guys because I know the job market is shit But I'd rather work a shot job than be an endless student livibg on welfare and playing computer-games at mom's house. It just seems like you could do better for yourself if you tried, even if life isn't what you dreamed it would be.

hi let's marginalise the yids and all be selfsufficient,
hatonn says he'll work with us not for us,he won't be our
slave,we should do the same, must be good fun arresting folk,
handcuffing them, making their wrist hurt, locking them up,
humiliating them in a cell, raiding their premises,
confiscating their property,charging them etc,interesting
our yid government is the biggest perpetrator of crime:
killing people, flooding the country with drugs, producing
toxic food/water/air/pharmaceuticals,indoctrinating the
populace with propaganda instead of truth etc, god
determines the law not yids, see phoenix journal 27,the nile
valley is a fertile plain because it floods once a year, you
don't mess with nature,it's god at work, thanks to the yid
antichrist the planet's irreparable, interesting the queen is
a double, the british empire is the yid empire, they control
banking/the media/governments etc,start all the wars,
pollute/destroy the planet/us,see protocols of the learned
elders of zion,we work for yids for yid money/vouchers to
buy yid goods, all we've got to do is withdraw our manpower,
their corporations including government will collapse, then
we can get on with living instead of slaving, see
ringingcedars.com,everyone selfsufficient,each community
decide its own fate,in accord with the laws of balance, see
phoenix journal 27,we don't need money/sell something to
survive,look at other species,once there was a firmament/
belt of vapour round the earth, like venus now, protecting it
from harsh radiation and maintaining a constant temperature,
resulting in lush vegetation/food everywhere, however it was
ruptured causing the deluge/oceans,fortunately it's being
restored,see abundanthope.net,then we'll have perpetual
spring,the garden of eden/aden,help yourself,everyone
selfsufficient,we don't need landownership/deforestation,
permaculture not agriculture,we don't need concrete jungle,
all construction can be underground or tree houses, eight
billion annunaki have been removed from inside the earth
which is hollow, 1k miles thick, the poles are holes, 1k
miles wide, entrances to the inner earth, see erks.org, we
don't need fossil fuel, oil is the lifeblood of the earth, the
continents float on it,electricity meters are C19th tesla

I'm 26, unemployed and live in a my "own" rented appartement but in the same part of the city I grew up in 300 ft. away from where my divorced controlling mother lives.

I have no savings at all.

I want to move away.

You can thank Otto von Bismarck for that.

If you want a job, then the classic way is to teach your language to foreigners.

German is a useful language to have in the tech/science area, so check out China. The Chinese are smart, intelligent people who want to learn foreign languages.

I would love to have my kids and grandkids live with us.

IMO, the Walton's had it goin' on.

I have one son(17) and a step-son(20) still here.
My middle son(20) lives with his girlfriend and their 2-year-old in an apartment over the garage at his dad's house rent free.
She works and my son stays with the baby, although he's looking for a job.

My eldest son(26) is married, 2 kids and one more on the way.
He has a career job, a house, bills, stress, worry, money problems, etc.
I worry about them and try to help whenever I can.
I really wish he'd sell his house (they hate the neighborhood and the house is too small) and just rent--sort of start over.

My greatest dream is to have a few acres to farm where all the family, including my sister, can live at least as neighbors.

He would never tell me to "fuck off" and we have always gotten along just fine and he still calls and visits regularly, but he's very independent.
I have to respect that my dream is not his, but if the economy goes as expected, my dream might be the one that becomes reality so all of us can get by.

By the way, he's a supervisor at a German based company and has toyed with the idea of moving to Germany.

Re: 28 yrs and I still live at home with my parents... Unemployed for 2 yrs.
I'm 28 yrs old and I still live at home with my parents. Ive never been on my own. I've been unemployed for 2 years now and I just think its funny and sad how my parents wont let me spend a dime of my own money to get 15 feral cats fixed so I had to be sneaky and do it under their radar lol I think about other ppl my age who live at home and some of the sneaky things they do is bring girls over to bang while their parents aren't home, but me.... when my parents are away I trap cats and take them to the vet to get them fixed. I have 3 more cats to go. Its been a stressful process trying to keep it under their radar but I know what would happen after another year goes by if I don't get these cats fixed... there will be more cats. I have 22 grand saved up and its sad how I can't even spend my money the way I want too and I have to sneak around to do this. Its worth it though. I decided to act on it after two kittens got ran over. Just wanted to share this with y'all.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23388029

You do what YOU think is best. I can relate to the "suffocating" parents. I'm the only child of three who doesn't own any property and has no children. I also have a mental disability and a spouse who lives in his home country of the Netherlands thanks to "Legal" immigration everyone is saying is such a great thing. Uhhh... right.

When I moved back here to TX after they sent my husband back to the Netherlands in Nov of 2008, my mother duped me! Before I knew it, she had control of my money, my time, and my relationship! It has taken me until just 4 months ago to get myself pulled back into my own realm! I'm 46, so don't be too hard on yourself. I have no clue why my parents think I am incapable for caring for myself. I left home at 16, graduated college, moved out of Texas in 1989 and I took care of myself just great! Until I came back to Texas, that is. Somehow my coming home to help my disabled, elderly mother turned into my having to be "managed".

But I did it! I got free and she and I still have a super relationship. I know she didn't want to retire and my sister and brother don't live close by so the neither they nor the grand children visit her often. Once a year is a miracle :( So I'm the closest thing she has to spend all of that bottled up "I need to be useful" energy on. I love her. She won't be with me long, so I'll put up with a few things.

Don't be so cruel. Jobs in the EU are as rare as finding gold in your back yard. They only want highly skilled, degreed people for the good paying jobs, and the others are paying hardly enough for a person to get by. Hell, my husband was unemployed for 8 months in the Netherlands. He couldn't even get a job at freaking McDonald's because he was "over qualified".

It's not a good idea to judge another person's situation unless you have walked in their shoes every day and know exactly what the circumstances are.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:20

Just wanted to share this with y'all.

looks at a loser..

really

what else can you say- but this is a fuckin loser...

28yrs old- stills lives at home and his parents run his life...

fuck off loser- when I was `exactly' half your age- I was living on my own, had gone from living in the back of my bosses workshop to renting my own place (ok it wasnt a palace but it was `mine')

when I was your age- I had just bought my own house (again its not a palace- but its a 1/2 acre block with a 2 bedroom house...

now I own 3 houses I rent out- I live in a caravan, because I can afford to tour around- I go to a new town whenever I feel like it...

I bet that you will `still' be living at your parents place when you are 70..
