But the sensation of leaving your body and being in or of the light usually only happens to children - something about the fact that they don't have a strong sense of self.

There were Catholics who experienced the light as late as the 1700s, but the Catholic church determined the practice was too dangerous and declared it a heresy...

Anyway, it feels like you are rushing towards a brick wall - then you break through the wall and it doesn't hurt. You don't feel anything, you simply are...connected maybe - outside yourself but part of something greater....

Drugs can cause the same sensation - which suggests its organic (based on brain chemistry) rather than some sort of actual spiritual experience...
