Gardening company faces $12.5 million penalty for adding poison to bird food
Sick, the one thing that this article does not mention is how much damage it has already done.

The US law and garden products company, Scotts Miracle Gro, the world's largest marketer of residential pesticides, is facing $12.5 million in fines for violating numerous federal pesticide laws and for adding illegal toxins to wild bird food.

The company pleaded guilty to distributing pesticides with misleading and unapproved labels, distributing unregistered pesticides and falsifying pesticide registrations - but the most disturbing was its use of toxic insecticide in its bird food products, including Storcide II and Actellic 5E.

well that is really sick, another case of profit first mentality and then being all apologetic when caught putting money first over life. this is going on all around us with pesticides and gmos. scotts is the same as monsanto.

I hope they are out of the birdfood business. Now it is time to see what they put into lawn fertilizer that is poison for birds, animals, children who play on the grass, adults who use it...etc ya know, water runoff.

then soon enough a 4 million dollar fine will multiply many times.

I hope this story gets lots of publicity in the industry. It would be nice if the garden center industry made a point of selling different brands in place of Scotts/Miracle Gro.

$12.5 million penalty, is that all!

They should be hammered to crap for this one. Something that takes away any profit they ever made from selling the poison bird food.

bids spred seed and help with bug problems on top of being beautiful and entertaing. i have a all natural company spray for bugs(ants) just around the foundation of our home. they even say it is harmfull to birds. my older retired neighbors spray weed killer and posions everywhere. i have tried to educate them but it doesn't work. my yard/garden in the desert is alive with birds and bees and i will do my part to fight these fucking compines and their trail of death..

You think this is bad? Google Diamond Pet Foods, and check out the trail of carnage left by these assholes.

A lot of Costco's pet foods are manufactured by these assholes (but they're not the only ones). What's worse is Costco now has a non-disclosure agreement with them, and thus there are now no markings on the packages to indicate who manufactured it. No listed mfg facilities, lot numbers, nothing. Don't believe me? Check it out next time you're at Costco. And yes, Costco has admitted they have this agreement to us, when asked. Call them if you don't believe me.

I have two cats that were almost killed by aflatoxin poisoning from a 20-lb bag of Kirkland dry cat food purchased from Costco 2 yrs ago. One has permanent brain damage, and its eyes will do longer properly dilate/constrict.

Fuck these assholes.

"Storcide II is extremely toxic to fish and toxic to birds and other wildlife," reads the label on the containers of the chemical. Still, Scotts used the substance and sold its illegally treated bird food for two years after it began making it and for six months after employees warned the company of its dangers. The company admitted it used the toxic substances to protect against insects in the bird food during storage."

The management morons that were responsible for that should be criminally charged.
