| tiger1 (OP) User ID: 6269153 United States09/09/2012 10:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 2 faves i owned were a 74 buick electra limited (in that super ugly GM cockroach brown). it was a steamship, but had the 455 motor that could pull treestumps out of the ground. it could cruise all day at 85 mph and still got an honest 20 mpg. the other was a 68 lincoln mark III (in metallic emerald green). she was more like an aircraft carrier, but had the last of the 462 nail valve motors. it also had an electro-mechanical antilock brake system (which i disconnected the day it went hyperthyroid and attempted to kill me on a busy urban highway), hydraulicly powered windsheild wipers, and an 8 track tape player, roflmao. it was another speed runner, comfortable cruising at 100 mph was order of the day if it was a cop free area. I just go right through the snow drifts like a hot knife through butter ! I know what you mean about the brown. I have no idea why that awfull color was so popular for a few years. It's ghastly, IMO. My Buick is grey in and out, and the vinyl top. My Caddy is white in and out, white vinyl top, and red pinstriped. The Caddy has a 501 engine. My Buick is my everyday car, while the Caddillac is a once a week pure pleasure drive. Quoting: tiger1 My favorite is the 1959 shark fin Caddillac. The lines on this classic car are just breathtaking. Another favorite of mine, is a 1964 Chevrolet Impala. My first car was this one. It was a great runner,great on gas with the 283 engine, and very roomy. Old Classics, especially the Muscle Cars, seem to be gaining in popularity with the younger generation.I was surprised at the choices of vehicles for my youngest daughter and her friends. It appears that many of this younger generation are truly interested in acquiring and restoring the vintage Camaro's, Mustangs, Chargers, etc. What is your favorite? All the cars you mentioned are not considered classic cars. At least by classic car people. |

The Caddy has a 501 engine. the buick had the "silk" roof, tan crushed velour interior, and power everything. when i got it the front end was shot, so i did a full rebuild on it (everything but the box). after that it handled like it was mounted on rails. that ugly assed cockroach brown was actually a traditional GM color to appeal to the old farts that grew up in buicks and oldsmobiles, or their conservative styled offspring that wanted "dad's color". it was also a VERY robust color as far as longevity is concerned. for some reason that color seems to experience less fading and weathering. it also gave you the opportunity to tell the guy at the parking lot "cockroach brown buick", and have him run right to your car, roflmao |

You CAN get lucky by being in the right place at the right time, for the right price ! A former neighbor bought a 1968 Ford from his mothers neighbor for $500. It had been sitting in a garage for a couple of years. My buick was 1 owner, had been sitting in the garage since the old lady who owned it quit driving several years befor. I got it for $1,200. Of course, I had to replace all the belts, hoses, tires, some gaskets, etc,because of dry rot. The body and the interior were excellant. I sunk $800 in it to start, and then probably only about $2,000 since. I was very fortunate ! Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!! |

I told her to pass it up. the "donk" craze has really spiked prices on old mid and full sized cars. im in south florida, you cant touch 70s vintage impalas, even basket cases are a fortune. old ponchos are getting rarer and rarer. check out what straight matching numbers chargers go for... astronomical! as years go by, all those cars you could have gotten for a couple hundred when you were a kid are now 5 figure cars. makes me wish i had filled a warehouse or 2 with them back in the late 70s |

All the cars you mentioned are not considered classic cars. At least by classic car people. Around here they are, and you can get a pretty penny for them too. Vintage 1970's through 1980's are real hot right now. The younger generation, late teens-early twenties seem to really seek them out. I got an offer for the Caddy while driving it home. A young guy pulled up to me in a brand new Chrysler and offered me cash on the spot. From what I was told, there is no way I should accept less than $10,000 for it. The Caddy will go nowhere, for no amount of money. It was my late Dad's car. Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!! |

I recommend a double set of alarms or security devices for your fine ride. I have 2 seperate systems in mine. I also keep mine locked up inside the yard with chained and padlocked gates when not driven. The gangbangers love these classic old rides, so be carefull ! It rolled like a ball when he lost control coming off the expressway ramp in icy weather. It was sturdy, he didn't get hurt. The beetle got a broken axle and had a small dent in the roof. | SR*77 User ID: 2932741 United States09/09/2012 11:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | any late 60's/ early 70's Dodge muscle cars, like the Demon [link to dayerses.com] 1959 Chevy Impala, I love the rear end on those 1972 Skyline 1964 Mercury Marauder (owned a 65) any sensible "rat rod" traditional hot rod, no stupid pastel paint jobs with contrasting splashes of color two toned late 80's style paint, and no particle board sub floor with a milk crate to sit on, no fiberglass bodies with airbrushed rust, something that looks nasty but is still road worthy, this one is from the new Mad Max movie coming out called Fury Road [link to www.madmaxmovies.com] and while we are on Mad Max/ the Road Warrior I would love a black v8 interceptor (73 Ford Falcon XB GT) Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem |
