Holy Spirit???? But what is the Holy Spirit???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

You mean, WHO is the Holy Spirit. God is made up of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. All 3 make up the Godhead of the universe. The Holy Trinity.
 Quoting: Orsolja

So basically you don't know what is meant.
This is the usual mumbo jumbo I was talking about.

So the Father and the Son are 2 different PERSONS than what is meant by HOLY SPIRIT???????????
 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

The Holy Spirit isn't a "what", it's a "who". He is part of the Godhead. He is the one who helps spread the kingdom on earth, He is our helper. He is Gods active force on the earth.

Re: But, What About The Dinosaurs?
I believe that there has been more than one event like the Great Flood where all of mankind was wiped from existence and we just aren't privileged to that information, which would explain the existence of dinosaurs and the apparent difference in the age of rocks and the Biblical time line.

According to the Talmud Lilith was Adams first wife, which conflicts with the Bible, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

Re: But, What About The Dinosaurs?
The bible is not a history book, its not a science book, its not a book on politics, and its definitely not the only book on the shelf.

It is a book that does have a few of those things included in it (very few). However the intent/purpose of the bible is to explain Mankind, God and the relationship between the two.

Genesis is not literal. It is allegory, a story - sort of a prolog that tells us 'what went on before' to get us ready for the rest of the collection of books.

No Dinosaurs are not in the bible, nor are the 4.5 billions of years that went on before the first humans arrived on earth. There was no Adam and No Eve as named people. There is the Adam - humanity.

Dinosaurs are not important in the explaining of what mankind is and what God is and what the relationship between the two is. Nor is stem cell research part of this subject, nor is exoplanetary subjects, or chemistry, or physics or a lot of other things.

Mankind, God and the relationship between the two is the only purpose of the bible.

Unfortunately too many people have been taught that the bible is supposed to do more (erroneously). And have fallen into the terrible trap of trying to weight the whole world against the bible, either to justify their belief or to disprove the belief of others.
 Quoting: Bowyn Aerrow

The Bible is a collection of books. Some are indeed history, some poetry, some prophecy, some legal, and some instructional. Allegory is just one of many genre, and we have to look at the context of the book or passage to determine which it is we're reading at a given time.

So to say "Genesis is allegory" is to not only ignore context, but also to make a baseless assertion: on what basis or criteria do you call it that? Sure, there are plenty of copy/paste experts to claim that because certain phrases or stories exist in extra-biblical literature then Genesis MUST be borrowing from them, but there are also experts who say the opposite. After all, oral histories predate written ones, and who can say which oral history came first? And who can say that they all didn't start with the oral contents of Genesis and then get corrupted as they were repeated? I have seen no convincing evidence to make Genesis an allegory in its entirety or in part, or that Moses plagiarized other stories.

The intent of the Bible is indeed to explain our relationship to God, but that's certainly not all. It is a reliable history book, as reliable as any other, and cannot be dismissed on the basis of bias since no history book is immune from it. And though it's good to point out that something's absence from the Bible doesn't mean anything, there are other plausible explanations for the issue of dinosaurs. The global Flood explains why the bulk of fossils are marine organisms and why they are found in sedimentary layers. It also explains the natural "sorting" that occurs in any flood, where the larger land animals try to seek higher ground, putting them in the uppermost layers generally. And the immense earth changes both causing and resulting from that Flood would provide ample explanation for the demise of the large dinosaurs especially.

The point about the Bible is that it cannot violate KNOWN scientific fact and still be the Word of God. But people have been bullied into equating evolution with science, through court orders preventing not only the mention of alternatives but also forbidding the teaching of facts which call evo theory into question. So before anyone can frame the debate between "science" and "religion", they first have to establish the claim that evo is "science". And no, I'm not going to open the whole evo debate here; I've done my time on that and there's plenty of sites discussing it. (A good one that rarely mentions God is Science Against Evolution: [link to scienceagainstevolution.info] ) The reaction evo believers always have to such words are ironically religious; note the venom, the zeal, the way they treat unbelievers as heretics and "lost"...

And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. John 3:13
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23517066

That sorta contradicts the stories in the OT about Elijah and Enoch, eh?

Supposedly Elijah was taken into heaven by God in a "chariot of fire" or a whirlwind depending how one reads the verse in Kings

Supposedly Enoch (Noah's grandfather) walked with God and was no longer seen upon the Earth as God took him. (From Genesis 5, as the book of Enoch is no longer considered biblical)

That door swings both ways; anyone can be stuck in their party line, no matter which party line it is.

Re. the Holy Spirit, the Bible makes it clear that this is a Person, not merely a title or description or emanation. However, the Hebrew uses the feminine pronoun (she) while the Greek uses the neuter (it). English lacks a respectful neuter pronoun so the Greek is rendered according to the English default (he). But the OT Hebrew should be rendered "she", and of course everyone would howl if such accuracy were to be put in print. ;-)

And of course, "as above so below" is an ancient Babylonian mystery religion phrase. What it means is a matter of debate, but the Bible never uses those words, and anyone who translates them as such (e.g. the Lord's Prayer) is being deliberately disingenuous and trying to make the Bible appear to have a "new age" origin.

Anyway, God is spirit and thus not gendered, yet when we take all the various descriptions of God, we must conclude that there are at least two Persons and IMHO three. A great website to get deep into such things is "A Christian Thinktank" at [link to christianthinktank.com] .

 Quoting: Whowasthatmaskedman

The Bible has been revised many times, mostly by deleting parts and whole books. The early OT is basically a reader's digest condensed version of Sumarian (and perhaps earlier) legends. More was left out than included. Consider the book of Enoch, just for one of many deleted.

The Roman emperors spent more than two centuries exterminating early followers of Jesus. The teachings were too close to anarchy for them. About 300 AD Emperor Constantine made a deal with the survivors and the greek Christos cult, and together they combined teachings, texts and formed a state religion. Many things the Emperor didn't like got deleted. Thus was "Christianity" and the Roman Church formed as a tool of empire to help control the people, and thus it remains, more or less.

Keep digging Lisa, God loves it when we dig out the hidden Truths in His Word.

Genesis 1:2

"was" "Yahah, haw-yaw; a prime root, to exit; to become, or come to pass."

"void" "Chabal, khaw-bal; to wind tightly as a rope, to bind, to pervert, destroy, to corrupt, spoil, travail," or as used elsewhere "to ruin".

God speaks to Isaiah about this subject..

Isaiah 45:18; "For thus saith the Lord That created the heavens; God Himself That formed the earth and made it; He hath established it He created it not in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: "I am the Lord; and there is none else."

This is God speaking and Isaiah is writing it down, and He is telling us that when He created the earth, it was not in vain. "Vain" is the same Hebrew word that we saw in Genesis 1:2, which was given as "void". God created this earth to be lived on, and to be inhabited.

Genesis 1:1 told us that God created the earth to be inhabited. The "Tohu", the "destruction", was not part of the creation plan of verse one, but came after the fall of satan when one third of all the souls followed him in the first earth age, in verse two.

Book of Jasher 4:18

18
And their judges and rulers went to the daughters of men and took their wives by force from their husbands according to their choice, and the sons of men in those days took from the cattle of the earth, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and taught the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order therewith to provoke the Lord; and God saw the whole earth and it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon earth, all men and all animals.

Dinosaurs were created BEFORE the flood by men, using "technology" from fallen angels.

The flood elevated these dead species, hence the finding of FOSSILS in the upper terrains of mountains. Everyone knows dinosaurs have small members (legs and the sorts) so it would take something like the elevation of water to place these dead species in such high areas.

Stop over complicating things.
