The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans' salary for the year was$951,957 plus expenses.


The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $675,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.
UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,900,000 per year (158K) per month, plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE. 4.4 cents per donated dollar goes to the cause.

Susan G Komen CEO Hala G. Moddelmog, was paid $531,924 in 2010 and the other top executives received more than $5 MM split among them.


This seems more in line with philanthropy. ;-`)

The Salvation Army Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only$13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.

Most of them are. They exist to create work for themselves. In almost all cases less than 20% of their takings go to the needy. One of the worst is Oxfam, who were first exposed in the 1970s but continue to operate because very few people take any notice of things like this. They give as a sop to their own conscience. The Red Cross is not much better. The only charity I have ever found to be worthy and who actually do what they say is the Salvation Army.

Agree Our President Choice grocery store has a childrens fund and every couple of months the cashiers ask if you want to donate 2.00 to the fund. Always say no, I know nothing about this fund and if any 10 cents gets there.

My favorite is the supermarket checkers that beg for donation. I swear they use it to increase their profits.

I prefer to sponsor a company that helps an organism that help a company selling unnecessary things to people and fill their pockets.

No they don't they do it to maximize their write offs on charitable donations using your money with it.... I hate that and I call them on it....it's minimizing their taxes using your money...

that's a great I dea..I would love to how much is your company willing to match? How about you open the till give me 5 bucks and ill match it i will go and make a donation for 10 dollars to help fight cancer...ill come back with a copy of the slip so you know where the funds went...(thats more than you do for me).....and ill claim the donation and write off on my taxes.....

And I won't charge a processing/handling/collection fee on money collected like the corps charge the charities for....

Some Chairitys invest the money in the donation money into the stock market make profit 3-5 times the donation money, pay out there biggest "donaters" with the investment profits.
Then donate the orignal donation money, get a tax credit and receive a good public image.

Warning to everyone if you are planning to donate anything, DONT BE a sheep, Research the chairty ask questions, dont let them play the taking advantage of short memory trick and lack of reasearch.

My list for the biggest scams in the world...

#1 Organized religion. Hands down the biggest scam ever perpetrated against humanity... for obvious reasons.

#2 Fractional reserve banking. A very small number of people managed to take over the entire globe's economic system, consume all of our wealth, and subvert all of the world's governments. This is a BIG one.

#3 The diamond trade. Owned and controlled by the same people stated above, they have convinced the world that these stones actually have worth through mass media propaganda advertising. When in reality these stones have absolutely no worth other than as cutting tools.

#4 The war machine. Again, controlled by the same people listed above. Wars rage all over the world and the common denominator is always who is orchestrating these conflicts... and who is selling and distributing the weapons of war.

#5 The pharmaceutical industry. This ties in with the OP's scam. These corporations make billions of dollars a year selling treatments... but never a cure. There's no money in curing any desease. And of course, all of the so called charity organizations out there feed this machine.

I pretty much stopped donating to charities because of this very thing. There was an article a while back that listed the top charities and how much actually went to the people--for some it was about 2%.

Operation Shoebox is one I like- the fee ($12 maybe?) covers shipping and a few bucks goes to the upkeep of the charity. You fill a box with various items and it goes to kids in other countries--usually I add water bottles, bandanas, magnifying glasses, and sewing kits in with the small toys and candy.

I NEVER donate money anymore..I go to spaghetti benefits, donate food to the pantries, and give old blankets to the animal shelter. It's sad that you can't trust charities anymore.

If you actually open up their financials and know what you're looking for, you will notice that the actual number is around 0.05%
