Science: Yes, NASA told some lies, and gets funded.

Religion: Keep putting your money in that money tray at church so you can hear a few lies from your pastor.

LOL! I was going to say the same thing, and add that they probably don't believe in evolution either, and think that dinosaur fossils were planted by archeologists!

so go buy the next issue of Nature...that is where the whole thing will be.

The thing is not 10 bazzillion years old just because some priest "said so". Bunch of paid liars.

Except that nowhere in the bible does it say that.

Why do people always fail to realise the Bible does NOT say the earth is only 6000 years old, MAN says that.

Infact the bible clearly says there was something going on well before the Gensis creation saga, as it specifically refers to the creation as a RECREATION not original, first or only as MAN has wrongly interpreted for what ever reason.

This is such a huge problem in the world today, everyone dismisses the bible based on mans misinterpretation do yourself a favor and study it for yourself not what someone else tells you about it.

why not, if christians can do it with a book that was just a bunch of personal letters added to the Jewish Torah, had no backing (the jewish people reject christianity), and can not be checked for accuracy since it was, conveniently, written decades after the supposed fact. and there was nothing at all written by historians or chroniclers from that time that corroborates anything in the bible.

but they insist it's true!

Which would line up with scripture;

Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

And then quoting from the article

"The reason we use the water analogy is water is without form.

"In the beginning there wasn't even space, space did not exist because there was no form.""

And their reference to the universe being created from water...

And the bible was written so long before all this scientific knowledge was even known....

Though I do understand discoveries like this come and go... so may not be "proven" to be so. Just thought what they had to say was interesting if it does come to be so...

Ok, about this new galaxy: Hotson's model implies that the red shift is NOT due to galaxies moving away from us. It's due to diffusion or loss of energy as light is transmitted via this medium across the universe.

If you buy this, then you no longer need an expanding universe and even more cool, you don't need a BIG BANG.

I gucking hate titles like this. You take a completely legitimate topic and turn it into sensationalist drivel. While this is a valid discovery, to say that it is "so old... it should not exist" is pure garbage and deserving of the BS flags it gets.

I'll never understand why people feel the need to sensationalize or otherwise bend the truth to try to prove a point. We're all looking for the truth; there's no reason to add more noise.

Our understanding of the universe and our world is so limited that if you don't believe in some form of afterlife there's no point in thinking about it. In 100 years it'll be completely different. You could say that it's irrelevant, except when it comes to the people who actually do the research and push it forward, as those in the future will build on their work. But us normal folk? Absolutely pointless.
