Free shoes for going to school?!!

I was refering to what the school gets out of it. All the kids show up on the count days for free shoes, the school gets funded for that many students, then they don't have to show up again until they have another count day, when they will give away something else free. I guess the school will just have to find something to use all that funding on.

And btw Apollo I worked my butt off in high school too and have scholarships that are really helping me out right now. So don't criticize me for trying to better myself at college and prepare for my future while there's other people like the ones in Detroit that couldn't give a sh** and will be living off of my hard work. I grew up near Detroit and understand that there's people in need there, but there is just as many that couldn't care less and will gladly take their welfare checks to continue buying their drugs and using it for other shady business. The school I'm at only requires Detroit students to get a 3.0 in order to receive admission and scholarships. The high school I received was held to much higher standards to get in here. They have all the assets they need, a new pair of shoes won't do anything but cost us money.

I never said quit, not sure where you get that from. I think teachers should be tested, there is no standard of excellence. Parents should teach their kids respect and kids should learn to get ahead in life not just show up to get a pair of shoes. If I hated poor people I would give them a pair of shoes instead of an education.

How am I a hypocrite you shill. I worked hard in high school and got into a good college that offered me a scholarship? These kids could do the same thing I did if they went to class and worked hard. You reap what you sow. I put in the effort and received rewards in return. These kids put in no effort and still receive the rewards. It doesn't make sense!

That's exactly it. The only reason they're giving these shoes out is to get kids there for COUNT DAY! Why not give out these shoes the next day? Or the day after? Or on Christmas? Why COUNT DAY! It is a complete set up by the school district to get kids there that would never show up in the first place without this giveaway.

Tax money put into schools is seriously a drop in the bucket compared to the vast wastes by military "padding" ($100 lightbulbs, $50 paperclips) so certain areas don't lose funding.

Money put into education is not wasted. Education is an investment - yes, a lot of kids from poor areas have bad attendance records and giving out shoes on count day is an effort in much the same vein as the military padding, but this is about giving children a chance.

There are roughly a thousand uses of taxpayer money that you should be angry about before giving children shoes, or adequate nutrition.

It's a shitty world sometimes, it's a GOOD thing to try and make it less shitty.
