Seed (OP) User ID: 22977820 United States 09/10/2012 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I met another person who was like-minded as me, and during one of our conversations he mentioned he needed a fan on as well. It made me wonder what the hell the deal is. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1465586 A possible answer... Noise. "White noise" can be conducive to sleep and relaxation (many sound machines offer a white noise setting). The combined sound of the blades, motor, and airflow can be very soothing. Reference "road fatigue" as an example of how repetitive white noise induces drowsiness. [link to wiki.answers.co] |

Better still, sure would love to live next to a waterfall or the ocean. Some white noise machines are silly...like they give you the ocean setting and then about 3 minutes in you hear bwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! from some steamliner and you're like ahhhhhh!!!!!!!! WTF!!!! Or the rain one where you hear the bird chime in right about the time you were going to hit delta and nail the one that got away "Caw!!!! Caw!!!!!" I buy fans every year because they burn out while running 365/year. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1465586 Yep, not sure why I need it, maybe trying to drown out something... Same here. Have to have the noise and the air. Even in the winter, never stop running. Points on me to. I can't stand no noise. |

Anybody else do this? Quoting: Seed Oh yeah. Ever since I was about 7 years old. I'm 61 now. I did go without it for a long time ages 30-50 when married and having a child to raise. Now that child is back in school I've got that fan going again every night. The sound is the main thing but the breeze is nice too. |

The world is designed to annoy the living shit out of the common man. I use a real fan. They don't use much electricity. I've never bought anything from this site because I told her to use 320k bitrate files as I could hear compression artifacts and she never replied to my email, but some of these would be great to use with headphones such as this one. [link to whitenoisemp3s.com] These are some really great soundscapes, but I just can't stomach paying for 192k compressed. She should know better then that. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 23011194 United States 09/10/2012 11:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Downsize that fan. I've got my bed in the corner and place a small fan right on the bed in that corner and keep it on low. Looking at last years electric bills. 10 of them were under $19. one was $22. The other I had to run some air and it was $25.64. I don't run that fan all the time..... |

She should know better then that. Off Topic but similar: We had our new twins photoed at the pro shop and we sprung for the package that included "The Disc" They charge appx 8000000 dollars for "The Disc" so that you have the rights to do whatever you want with the pictures...the equivalent of having "The Negatives" from back in the day. With the negatives, you can print whatever you want, whenever you want. This effing disc has jpgs, compressed, and super small dimensions...not the raw camera data. What am I supposed to do with that???? We got hosed. |

My ceiling fan over my bed on low 365, winter/spring/summer/fall, plus a window cracked open. LOL Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15170057 Okay, I might close the window at -25+ in the winter but the fans always on. Same lol :/sdfhasdfshasd/: Those who live by the sword die by the sword, those who don't live by the sword are subject to those who do. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 10996872 United States 09/10/2012 11:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is normal. The fan puts you to sleep because it raises the effective environmental noise floor, and therefore blocks out distracting noises in the environment. Nothing at all is wrong with doing that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8682209 Wonder if it damages ability to hear sounds below the drone of the fan, when it is not on? |
