House Votes Today to Legalize Warrantless Wiretaps
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Activist Post

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.
- Thomas Jefferson

Only days after a NSA whistleblower has sounded the alarm about the government's massive spying campaign on American citizens, the U.S. Congress who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution are set to legalize warrantless wiretaps with the reauthorization of the secretive FISA Amendments Act.

This legislation is the perfect example of why there is no difference between the political parties. Their rhetoric may differ when it's politically expedient, but when push comes to shove they always vote for tyranny.

Obama said he was against the Patriot Act to get elected because the majority of Americans opposed it, but then he supported its extension not for one year, but for four years. Obama repeatedly attacked Bush's warrantless wiretaps as unconstitutional, but now he's expected to sign this 5-year reauthorization once the unprincipled legislators rubber stamp it today.

It seems the only time Congress acts in a bipartisan way is when they're trampling the Constitutional rights of Americans.

Appeals Court OKs Warrantless Wiretapping
By David Kravets
08.07.12

The federal government may spy on Americans’ communications without warrants and without fear of being sued, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday in a decision reversing the first and only case that successfully challenged President George W. Bush’s once-secret Terrorist Surveillance Program.

“This case effectively brings to an end the plaintiffs’ ongoing attempts to hold the executive branch responsible for intercepting telephone conversations without judicial authorization,” a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals wrote. (.pdf)

The case concerned a lower court decision in which two American attorneys — who were working with the now-defunct al-Haramain Islamic Foundation — were awarded more than $20,000 each in damages and their lawyers $2.5 million in legal fees after a tortured legal battle where they proved they were spied on without warrants.

They sued under domestic spying laws Congress adopted in the wake of President Richard M. Nixon’s Watergate scandal. The government appealed their victory, and the appeals court Tuesday dismissed the suit and the damages.

Police State Spying and the Criminalization of Justice in America
by Tom Burghardt
August 26, 2012

Another Day, Another Shameful Ruling on Police State Spying

Recently, federal district court Judge Cormac J. Carney of the Central District of California, dismissed a civil rights lawsuit filed against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on grounds of bogus "state secrets privilege" claims made by the Obama administration.

That suit, Fazaga v. FBI, was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). The plaintiffs forcefully argued that the Bureau illegally spied on Muslim residents in southern California, targeting them for "special handling" solely on the basis of their religious beliefs.

The atrocity played out in Carney's court against a citizens' right to due process under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, constitutional guarantees that extend to all government actions and proceedings that can result in harm to an individual either civilly or criminally, is only the latest in a long line of capitulatory rulings by a diminished Judicial Branch.

Under Bush, and now Obama, the Justice Department demanded that Fazaga be thrown out on the most specious grounds: that presidential authority in all matters relating to national security cannot be challenged by those who are the victims of predatory actions, regardless of their egregious nature, by the secret state.

Igor Curcio heads a team of researchers at the Nokia Research Center and has developed complicated algorithms that can take clips of thousands of films, and create a movie that is seamless and perfectly matched with an audio track.

Right now Google and YouTube assist corporations in mining for information on internet users by tracking what videos they watch. From there, a profile is derived from preferences.

The move toward utilizing computers to collect and decipher information is being seen across the intelligence community. On the US-Mexican border, developments are moving toward using computers to track border-crossers, film them with video cameras, and use software programs to analyze the data.

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) is a US governmental research agency that:

• Shares information with other US Intelligence Communities (IC)
• Fills in the gap between other agencies
• Provides innovations in line with business models
• Provides intelligence concepts that surprise enemies

We the people invented and run that technology. No reason why we can't tap their phones as well. What goes around comes around. We can use this to our advantage if it passes. Willing to bet they are tapping already anyway.

technically, unconstitutional laws are not laws and are void on their face.

Yet, we see this continuing practice of ignoring the constitution. This makes them rebels and the rebel government will suffer the fate of all rebel governments.

Not sure why people think the gov needs to legalize anything. They can do whatever they want. Run guns, kidnap children, assasinate citizens. Everything you say and do has been recorded for decades. This is part of an fyi, doesn't really change anything.

Let's look at this from a practical standpoint.

The US ganster "government" has dropped all pretense of being a legitimate government. They could vote to sell us air -- would that make it a legitimate "law"? Of course not.

Most people are simply waiting for this Washington clusterfuck to disintegrate so we can restore the republic. It's a damn shame that Washington has utterly failed at everything, yet they will not willingly step down and get-the-fuck-out-of-the-way.

It's (still) the - as we say in Holland - 'far from their bed show'...

People should be (very) aware of the fact that what is legitimate today, could be illegal tomorrow.

The storage of large food suplies, for instance, used to be no problem at all, while now everything that goes beyond a stash for 7 days is illegal in the USA.

See what I mean?
